  • 1.  Upgrading vSphere web client from a command line

    Hello.

We are running an older version of vSphere, 6.0, on an appliance. We are unable to log in through the web console, and it has been determined the presence of Adobe Flash is causing the access problem. We want to upgrade to the 6.7 Update 3 release, but since we cannot do it through the web console, we wanted to know if there is a way to do it from the command line. The appliance is a Dell server with its iDRAC module.

This is the vmware doc you are looking for for the procedures:

    https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/7.0/com.vmware.vcenter.upgrade.doc/GUID-97BA3A0E-CFCB-407D-81FD-FB91AE46786F.html

Out of curiousity though, did you have the same issue across multiple browsers?

Or, if you console into another VM that allows you to run an older version of a browser...same access issue (blank screen I assume?)?

    Hello.

Thank-you for your response. I am going to look through the information listed in the provided link.

The issue does occur across multiple browsers, ie: Firefox, Chrome, Edge, with the result being the connection timing out. When I connected using the Edge browser, I also tried connecting in Microsoft Explorer mode.

, Understood on the browsers.  I like to ask, even if it's a dumb question (in my head) because sometimes just asking that kind of question can drive other thoughts/possibilities. I had run into similar issues in ESXi 6.5, prior to upgrading to ESXi 7 and then later to v8.

Let us know if the guide is useful, or if there are other specific configurations you are looking for, especially if you are mandated to remain on 6.7 (Assuming security approval challenges...something else I'm familiar with)

     - Just reading through your post, you mention you are running vSphere 6 on an "appliance" but then mention the appliance is a Dell Server.   So just to confirm, are you talking about upgrading vCenter or an ESXi server?

It sounds like you asking about vCenter, but if it is a Dell Server, then I assume it is running on Windows Server, in which case it is not an appliance. The vCenter (VCSA) appliance is a Virtual Machine instance running Photon OS.   Can you clarify,  and hopefully someone can help further.

Just to add, assuming we are talking about vCenter, and given it is so old, is it worth considering skipping straight to vCenter 7 (or even 8 ) which are both supported, and deploying that as a brand new vCenter, than migrating everything across. It would probably be a far more controlled upgrade route, and a lot less hassle.
