While the default options for following content in the new communities apply to only people, places, or pieces of content, subscribing via RSS feeds allows for an easy way to subscribe to other, more specific items such as categories and filtered content lists. Subscribing via RSS feeds makes it possible, for instance, to receive an email update every time a specific content type is created in a new category, or with a specific set of filters that you've set.
To subscribe to content via an RSS feed, you first need to go into a community, and navigate to the "Content" tab. Once you're in the content tab you can filter the content in a specific category by clicking on your desired category on the left-hand side of the page, or apply additional filters such as content type, text, or tags from the filter options at the top of the content list, as shown below.
Once you've set your filters to see only the content you'd like to subscribe to, you can scroll down to the bottom of the content page, and click "Get a Feed of this Content." This link will take you to a page where you can select the application you'd like to be notified in (ie. Outlook) and click "Subscribe Now."
Clicking "Subscribe Now" will subscribe you to that content, and moving forward the system will send an email to your registered CA Communities email every time a new piece of content is created in that community with those selected filters.
Some users have been reporting issues when subscribing to RSS feeds with certain browsers. The best way for users to subscribe using any browser is to click on “Get a feed of this content” and copy that URL into Outlook/your preferred RSS reader to manually add it. Using a browser extension such as Feedly will also help to simplify the process.
