Videos are one of the most interacted with pieces of content on the communities. Webcast replays, tips, tricks and more make valuable videos on the community. There are a few best practices to take into consideration before posting videos. Most video recording software will work so use whichever you are most comfortable with.
Supported Video Formats
Supported formats include AVI, MOV, WMV, MP4, MPEG, FLV, F4V, 3GP, and 3G2. Any recording service that records in one of these formats will work.
What is the max video upload size?
Unlimited. Timeouts and other undesirable behaviors can happen with large video uploads (> 1GB)
Recording your Video
You will want to use a recording service that allows you to share your screen. One of the more available methods is WebEx.
- Start a meeting
- Share your desktop or file
- Start recording
Speak clearly and professionally. Once finished end the WebEx and your recording will be emailed to you. The file you receive will be a .arf file. Use the WebEx conversion service to convert to an MP4 and upon completion upload to the communities. Play and Convert WebEx Recordings | Cisco Cloud Collaboration Help Central
Uploading to Jive
When posting a video to the communities you have a few options: uploading the video directly, recording a video, and embedding a video. You can embed videos directly from other sources like YouTube or Vimeo. It's recommended that you upload the video directly to the communities, why? Embedded videos from other sources such as youtube are sometimes blocked by others workplaces and they will be unable to view.
Webex is just one means to record a video. I prefer using QuickTime on a Mac, but this is just a preference. If you are more comfortable using another method go for it, this is by no means the definitive way. Do you have any screen recording services you prefer or any additional tips and tricks to offer?
