VCP5 vs VCP5-DCV differences

HI,

Can someone please tell me the differences between VCP5 and VCP5-DCV?

Just bought the VCP book and realized later there is a newer version. But not sure about the differences. Am I really missing a lot from the new book? I don't really want to buy same book again if I don't need it.

Anything after VCP- is the specialty for that certification.  DCV is the Datacenter Virtualization specialty of VCP.

Which book exactly you bought ? Anyway, if it was for VMware vSphere... don't worry... this is only the new name convention from VMware to differentiate the VCP certifications, because now VMware have VCP for Datacenter Virtualization (VCP-DCV), End User Computing (VCP-DT), Cloud (VCP-Cloud) and Network Virtualization (VCP-NV).

But, when booking the exam you need make sure to select the correct exam, because there is three version o VCP5-DCV exam: VCP5-DCV Exams

The first Official VCP5 (VCP5--DCV) book was written when the VCP510 exam covered vSphere 5.0.  The exam was updates over a year ago to be 5.0/5.1 agnostic.   There is an appendix/updates available from VMware Press covering the differences.

The New Official VCP5-DCV book covers the current VCP550 exam.

I know DC is for data center. What I want to know is that VCP5-DCV is the actual replacement for VCP5?

I bought The Official VCP5 Certification Guide (VMware Press Certification) just yesterday and later found that there is a newer edition of the book that came few months ago: VCP5-DCV Official Certification Guide (Covering the VCP550 Exam): VMware Certified Professional 5 - Data Center Virtualization (2nd Edition) (VMware Press Certification)

So is VCP5-DCV the same as VCP5 with new data center and 5.5 topics?

Yes... VMware added -DCV just to differentiate between different VCP tracks available like I told you on my previous post.

Yes, but the 5.5 topics is available only on Second Edition of book.

No, as previously stated VCP5-DCV is just the new name for what was previously called VCP5. It was and still is a vSphere-based certification, so it was and still is a data center certification.

There are currently 2 exams available for those who want to gain VCP5-DCV certification:

VCP510, based on vSphere 5.0/5.1

VCP550, based on vSphere 5.5
