Hello,
We have a SAN composed from heteregenous platforms (HP, Fujitsu, IBM...) and we are going to migrate all of them to a new DCX switch Director.
Could you advise what steps should we plan.
Do you have some ideas from your previous experiences that can help.
Is there something to consider before migration.
Thanks

what kind of migration you want to do ?
From -> To ?
- Switch Type, Model, Manuf.- ?

In fact the architecture will be changed amon the migration.
The old Architecture is using multiples switches (Brocade 3850, Brocade 5000, Blade Switches...).
The new architecture will centralize all of them on the DCX.
For the moment we created the virtual fabrics and virtual switches on the DCX and we defined a redundant architecture.
We created aliases and zoning (soft zoning).
The action remaining is to unplug the servers and the storage from the old switches and to plug them on the DCX.
Is there something to check before. (Compatiblity Matrix, Port speed (fixed or auto?) )...
Thanks

Migration between Brocade Switches is very Simple and easy.
before you begin, save the corrunt Producive Fabric from all Swictes.
Make sure all Switch 3850 and 5000 in the Fabric have compatibility FOS with DCX, if no Upgrade the FOS is required, connect all this Switch you want to remove as ISL with the DCX, the config will be migrated self.
Make sure all Switch in the fabric have a unique DID.
Make sure all Swicth are in the same or Compatible Interop-Mode.
About the Blade Switch, is this a Brocade Blade ?

Yes the blade switches are Brocade

Same thing here, want to join three SAN's
SAN I BRC48k + (2)4024 HP/BRC Blade
SAN II BRC24k + 4024 + (2) 5480 HP/BRC Blade
SAN III BRC 5100
I want to consider implementing virtual fabric, please advice.
Tks in advance

VF = Virtual Fabric, is only capable on 8G Platforms such 5100, 5300, DCX and DCX-4s
48000 and early 4G and 2G Plattforms not supported this feature, but can become member in a VF Capable Fabric.
VF -AFAIK ! - is not supported on such 8G Blade Platform like 5480

ok, so VF can be defined at the DCX then "import" other fabrics into them just like that ?
11-20-2010 04:54 AM
what you mean whit --->>>...then "import" other fabrics.... ?

import definitions of other hardware (switches) with it's definitions like (alias & zoning) of the other fabrics I want to "migrate/integrate" into the DCX.
