Port in G-Port status after switch reboot

Hello.

Having HP B-series 8/12c SAN Switch BladeSystem c-Class(Brocade)

blades in c7000 enc with QLogic QMH2562 8Gb FC HBA for HP BladeSystem c-Class.

On blade ESXi 4.1 update1 installed.

SAN Switch OS is 6.4.1b

After reboot of SAN Switch ports connected to blades become in G-Port state, and no SAN devices visible trough that switch.
Only when I reboot blade-server, port become in F-Port state and I can see SAN devices.

Is any way to solve this problem?

Not really a solution, but next time only bounce (portdisable;portenable) the ports which won't come online.

Usually host will login again after a port bounce.

Re: Port in G-Port status after switch reboot

I tried, this does not help. Only server reboot.

I changed speed in HBA form auto to 4gbit, and then problem disappears. If I set 8gbit or auto, problem returns.

Hi cit-subscription

What brand of HBA's do you have , have you tried updating the BIOS and OS drivers ?

Re: Port in G-Port status after switch reboot

Hello TheEsp.

HBAs are QLogic branded. BIOS is up to date.

I don't find new HBA drivers for ESXi.

Re: Port in G-Port status after switch reboot

Hi -

in G-port status, port is waiting for device attached to talk ... if not, that means there's an issue with HBA firmware or OS driver.

You have to use system command to reset/rescan your FC port, which is done when you reboot host. On most systems, you should be able to do that under running conditions (for instance cfgmgr under AIX).

Hope this helps

Kind regards,

Ok problem disapears when HBA is set to 4G and reapears on 8G or auto.

What mode do I need to set? In 4Gbit Fill Word is 1 (Arbff-Arbff).

> portcfgfillword
Usage: portCfgFillWord PortNumber  Mode
Mode: 0/-idle-idle   - IDLE in Link Init, IDLE as fill word (default)
1/-arbff-arbff - ARBFF in Link Init, ARBFF as fill word
2/-idle-arbff  - IDLE  in Link Init, ARBFF as fill word (SW)
3/-aa-then-ia  - If ARBFF/ARBFF failed, then do IDLE/ARBFF

8G needs ARBB as fillword.

Option 3  is your best bet.

No changes - again G-Port after switch reboot.
