Non-redundant ISLs and connection interruption

I'm working with a possible new implementation where one data center will connect to another with non-redundant ISLs (over DWDM). The telco is saying that if 1 ring fails, it will fail over to another ring within 50ms. During this failover time, of course, neither end will see each other and the fabric may segment.
