We plan to bring our SAN switch and Router estate up to the lastest supported versoions of FabOS for the SW4100 Switches and XPathOS for the AP7420 Routers.
We have a similar SAN configuration in our two Data Centres.
Theses are joined by a WAN connection which has a DWDM Chassis at each end.
Both sites have down level versions of both FABOS and XPathOS.
One site has FABOS 5.3.1 and the other site has FabOS 6.0.0a.
Both sites have XPathOS 7.4.0d.
My question is do we take both sites FABOS up to FabOS 6.4.0 first and then upgrade XPathOS to 7.4.1?
OR
Do we upgrade XPathOS to 7.4.1at both sites first and then take both sites FABOS up to FabOS 6.4.0?
OR
Does the order that these upgrades are done in not matter?

AP7420 - XPathOS is Official not longer supported by Brocade with FabOS 6.4.x
XPathOS is Official Supported and Certified by Brocade only till FOS 6.3.x
See attached release Notes.

Thanks for the info.
Can you comment on which is the best order to make the upgrades?

The fact is follow:
We have here exact the same Hardware, AP7420 ISL to 4100.
7420 is run with v7.4.1f ( this is the latest Release ) since around 2 Years.
It is strange, we upgrade at several time the 4100 and all work Fince till 6.4.0, but after we upgrade around 3 week to 6.4.0b ISL was interrupted.
We make some test with Downgrade to 6.4.0 w/o any success.
I believe, Brocade Eng. made a change in the FOS Structure and 6.4.x release cannot longer Interoperate with XPath.
Not sure what is the goal from Brocade.... and I will not comment this.
Back to your question, I would first Upgrade the AP7420 to 7.4.1f and then the FOS as descripted in the FOS Release Notes.

FOR SW FOS upgrade you have to go like:
5.3.0>6.0.0>6.1.0>6.2.0>6.3.0
6.0.0>6.1.0>6.2.0>6.3.0.
as for APS7400 you can see the discussion in the forum http://community.brocade.com/thread/4679?tstart=0 about 6.4.0c Defect ID: DEFECT000307117
