Is Fine that you have understand other Release are not supported.
>>> Will these two versions support each other?
i wrote in a preview post this is supported.
>>> So I am not sure what is going to happen if I upgrade my Brocade 5000.
FOS upgrade from 5.2.1 to 5.2.1_NI1 is disruptive
>>> Will “configupload” and “configfdownload” be an option for faster config recovery after upgrading the Brocade 5000 from Fabric OS...
you can use configupload and download only beetween the same FOS release 5.2.1
the same config cannot be used from 5.2.1 for 5.2.1_NI1, you need to reconfig the switch.
>>> I could not find the administration guide for “Fabric OS: v5.2.1_ni1”....
5.2.1_NI use the same guide as 5.2.1 excepted a small Documentation Addendum guide.
i believe this is for download available here in the community.

I am going to test this.
Your comments and tips are very valuable.
I am not marking it as the correct answer as I feel, I might need more expertise.
Sorry for not rating them earlier.
Thank you very much for the expertise.

Hi
We have upgraded one Brocade 5000 to “Fabric OS: v5.2.1_ni1” for testing.
Just after the upgrade, we have come to the following mode,
swd77:admin> interopmode
InteropMode: McDATA Fabric
Default Zone: Off
Safe Zone: Off
Here we can’t use brocade commands to reconfigure the switch.
Is this mode is mandatory to connect this switch to McDATA 1620 ?
If so, how do we configure switch? using SANavigator ?
Sorry for the all silly questions. I am trying to find a doc for full compatibility of these two units; I am unable to find one yet.

yes.
--->>> If so, how do we configure switch? using SANavigator ?
SANavigator is a GUI / Front-end Software using only for 1620 and 2640, yon can not use to configure McDATA or Brocade Switch.
with IE http://switch-ip-address you become the Switch Web-Tools or trough the CLI can configure the 5000
FOS 5.2.1_NI use the same DOC as 5.2.1 excepted the addendum Guide, is attached here.

Thanks for the tip and the guide.
In the Admin Guide it says,
ZONE -> Zone configuration can only be modified and committed from the McDATA
management tool. v5.2.1_NI adds support of McDATA default zone and
safe zone features
All zone related legacy commands are under "unsupported command".
How do I go ahead for zone configurations ?
Thx
