I have recently purchased a nice Brocade 8000 switch from ebay. The switch includes some useful licenses which I do not want to lose.
I do want to reset the configuration on the switch, and update the FOS (currently 6.4.2a).
At this point, I have access to the CLI (telnet and serial) and I can see all the licenses via licenseshow.
What is the proper procedure to update and reset the switch without losing the licenses?
Thanks in advance, Erik

I assume you use the command "licenseshow" from command line.
simple copy the license key in a txt or word dot, you can add at any time with the command "licenseadd lic_key" to the switch.
-->>I do want to reset the configuration...
you have simple to remove the config, here no necessary to reset anything, the license will not be lost.
same by FOS upgrade, license remain activated

Thank you for the info.
In other topics on this matter, I found the following sequence of commands to clear config:
cfgdisable (hit "y" at prompt)
cfgclear (hit "y" at prompt)
cfgsave (hit "y" at prompt)
From what you told me, I assume this will not touch the licenses. Even if it would touch the licenses, all I need to backup are the numbers shown by licenseshow.
Did I understand this correctly?

Is there any way to get updates for the Brocade 8000 without having a service contract? This is for my home lab. Thanks.

download is not available without active maintenance contract.
additional, you would need for sure more release in order to upgrade to latest supported FOS, this is v7.1.2b1
