Re: 6.4.0 breaks with AP7420?

Peter is it possible for you to zip and post the supportshow for both the router and the switch.

Also specify the 2 ports in question

Re: 6.4.0 breaks with AP7420?

Hi Peter,

<logged the call with vendors>, hp and Sun though  different vendors , escalate it , and both the vendors will work at the backend , if needed they will take this to brocade and provide you the solutions.Be ready to provide them the details, which they will ask you. Perhaps output of some commands through root login. Kep the one time root password ready, if you have got it, from the vendors, when taking the SAN equipments

Till then we will have a look on the supportshow.

Re: 6.4.0 breaks with AP7420?

I'm just making a wild guess since there is nothing to loose here.

I see this error in your logs.

2010/08/29-19:34:06, , 8826, FID 128, INFO, pmfcsw06, Port 32 negotiated R_RDY (mode = 2).

2010/08/29-19:34:06, , 8827, FID 128, WARNING, pmfcsw06, port 32, incompatible operating mode.

Can you try this advice from the Admin guide and let me know if it works.

By default, switch ports initialize links using the Exchange Link Parameters (ELP) mode 1. However,

gateways expect initialization with ELP mode 2, also referred to as ISL R_RDY mode. Therefore, to

enable two switches to link through a gateway, the ports on both switches must be set for ELP

mode 2.

Configuring a link through a gateway
1. Connect to the switch at one end of the gateway and log in using an account assigned to the
admin role.
2. Enter the portCfgIslMode command.
3. Repeat steps 1 through 2 for any additional ports that will be connected to the gateway.
4. Repeat this procedure on the switch at the other end of the gateway.
Example of enabling a gateway link on slot 2, port 3.
ecp:admin> portcfgislmode 2/3, 1
Committing configuration...done.
ISL R_RDY Mode is enabled for port 3. Please make sure the PID
formats are consistent across the entire fabric.
For your case it will be

pmfcsw06:admin> portcfgislmode 32, 1

Re: 6.4.0 breaks with AP7420?

You can Use the portCfgShow command  to  determine  whether ISL R_RDY mode is enabled on a port.

The ISL R_RDY mode sends an ELP with the flow  control  mode 02.   If  a  port  is  ISL  R_RDY  mode enabled, it can only  receive an ELP with flow control mode  02.  A  received  ELP with flow control mode of 01 will segment the fabric.

Re: 6.4.0 breaks with AP7420?

I set the ISL R_RDY mode to on and I tried to enable the link. But according to the errdump command it still tries as (also) mode 2.

I do not know any command to set this on the AP7420. The only command I know there are:

portcfgeport         - Display or set the port E_Port mode.
portcfgexport        - Sets a port to be an EX_Port and set/display EX_Port configuration parameters.
It has to be an eport of course.

pmfcsw06:admin> portcfgshow 32

pmfcsw06:admin> portcfgislmode 32 1
Port 32 can not be configured as ISL R_RDY mode.
ISL R_RDY mode and QOS mode are mutually exclusive.
pmfcsw06:admin> portcfgqos --disable 32
pmfcsw06:admin> portcfgislmode 32 1
ISL R_RDY Mode is enabled for port 32. Please make sure the PID

Re: 6.4.0 breaks with AP7420?

I guess you need to set the long distance mode for this port now.

For example

switch:admin> portcfgfillword 32 3
switch:admin> portcfglongdistance 32 LD

hemant

First statement

--->>> I doubt it on AP7420. You can compare the 4900->AP7420 configuration and DCX4s-> AP7420 configuration.

Second Statement

<logged the call with vendors>, hp and Sun though  different vendors , escalate it , and both the vendors will work at the backend ,

Till then we will have a look on the supportshow.

then post Biju about R_RDY

and here is hemant Trirds Statement

--->>> You can Use the portCfgShow command  to  determine  whether ISL R_RDY mode is enabled on a port.

when tomorrow another Member post here Fit the Port with Ice Cream and Ketchup I'm sure hemant have here another valuable answer.

Re: 6.4.0 breaks with AP7420?

portcfgfillword is not supported on the 4900 (only on 8GB ports)

I tried all the possible combinations, the ap7420 is using the old method (L0.5, L1 and L2) and the LE, LD and LS on the 4900, but without any luck.

It keeps on saying incompatible....
