Hi is there any tool/script which can replace the sylink for remote systems with the local admin account rights instead of doamin admin account.as most of the enterprise branch ITOs dont have domain admin rights and have to do it manually.any help..

Jun 04, 2014 08:08 AM

ok...Brian....thanks for info..

Jun 04, 2014 08:05 AM

Again, for 12.1 you're looking at roughly 350MB for a full package...the time and bandwidth is not a set number...you need to test this out in your network.

For future reference, you're posting on an old thread. If you want more input and visibility from others, please create a new thread.

Jun 04, 2014 07:11 AM

can any one tell the size of upgrade package (11.x to 12.x) ...and how much time it takes to upgrade and bandwidth...

Jun 03, 2014 03:25 AM

anyone can please tell me the thresold values need to be defined in SEPM for Disk usage,
Memory Usage
Free System Disk Space
Free Data Disk Space
Memory Usage

it will be very helpful.

May 29, 2014 09:44 AM

i need the average size and how much bandwidth it can consume...

May 29, 2014 08:34 AM

I don't have those numbers, it varies for every network.

The sylink.xml is a small file, 2-3KB in size.

May 29, 2014 08:30 AM

thanks brian...

how much time and bandwidth it will consume...?????

also please confirm the size of communication update package which is used to migrate the clients and how much time and bandwidth it will consume......

May 29, 2014 08:24 AM

Both 32/64 bit of the latest version are 400+ MB with all features installed

May 29, 2014 08:22 AM

can anyone please let me know that what is the default size of SEP client package and how much time and bandwidth it consumes while pushing the client package from SEPM through remote push...

May 29, 2014 06:27 AM

any luck...????

May 27, 2014 11:42 PM

Thanks Mithun for the information...

now ..i tried both the option for migration of my existing clients to the new SEPM (12.1.4013 to 12.1.4013)

1. Tried through the deployment of communication package on clients via home page-->Common Task-->Install Protection client to computers.

which was successfull without any interuptions.

2. tried with sylinkreplacer. everything went fine but nothing updated. i checked on clients -->double click on SEP icon-->but still it is pointing to the Old SEPM.

Now question is which option is the best one between the two. 1st one or the 2nd one.

also in my client environment they are providing the services through one site (SEPM) to the 2 or 3 customers.here chalange is how can i get the same database to the new sepm if i will migrate some clients from existing to the new sepm. is it mandatory to take the same backup from existing to the new or just the policy setting export/import will work. or is there any option of same configuration settings to be replicated to the new SEPM....????

May 27, 2014 07:53 AM

No, it's not required to stop the existing SEPM services when migrating the clients.

May 27, 2014 07:33 AM

just a quick question here. while migrating the clients from existing SEPM to the New SEPM, does it required to stop symantec services on existing sepm..????

it is really a big question here.

Jun 30, 2013 02:19 PM

Hello,

You will have to use SEP 11 sylink replacer tool in that case.

Jun 25, 2013 12:05 PM

If we have SEPM 12.1 and orphaned SEP 11 clients, do we use the SEP 11 Sylink replacer tool to connect those clients to the SEPM 12.1 server or would you recommend using the SEP 12.1 sylink replacer tool?

Jun 25, 2013 07:06 AM

Hi,

For SEP 11 clients use SEP 11 Sylink replacer utility.

For SEP 12.1 clients use SEP 12.1 Sylink replacer utility.

Agree with concrete_block it's very useful utility.

Apr 29, 2013 09:49 PM

Yes, this is a new feature in 12.1 RU2. See here

Hi

I've checked SEPM console (SEP 12.1.2015.2015) and there's a way to update clients, without using sylinkreplacer

Go to "Clients" tab, then "Add a client" and there you have 3 options

- New package

- Existent package

- Communication package update

I choose the third option, which does the same function as sylinkreplacer

With this option available, there's no need to use sylinkreplacer

Thank you anyway. :)

Apr 26, 2013 02:04 AM

Hi,

Could you share support case number with me, I will make sure that you will get the credentials to download Sylinkreplacer tool.

Apr 25, 2013 11:38 AM

I open a case at Symante Support, but they're taking to much time to reply

Is it possible that you could provide me this tool? I kinda need it now!

Thank you anyway :)

Hi,

Sylink file location has changed in SEP 12.1.

Apr 25, 2013 02:37 AM

Does not work with SEP 12.1 :(

Nov 29, 2012 09:29 AM

thanks a lot. it help me alot to add clients running SEP11.7 to SEPM12.1. but clients status shows offline. can anyone help me with this???

Jul 17, 2012 09:42 PM

I finally figured out what the issue was.

The internal batch files that the tool uses, uses the word "type" it as the succes condition. It should use ttl since "type" is not used in all implementations of "ping". I change to "ttl" and the script connues further. Still some issues but I think they are password related.

One suggestion though. The utility erases itself upon completion, whether it's successfull or not. Probably not the most optimal of solutions

Jul 17, 2012 07:09 PM

Hi,

I'm using the SylinkReplacer_12.1.exe and when it runs against a known IP address, valid administration password and login I see the following message appear in the DOS screen:

  • Discovering clients, PLease wait...
  • Discovering 192.168.168.6
  • find: 'Reply": No such file or directory

I'm only using the one IP address at this time and nothing else is appearing on the screen.

What does this mean and how can finish pushing out the sylink.xml file to this one address.

fyi I get the same message for all the IP addresses I'm trying to discover.

I have version 12.1.671.4971 of the mgmnt console

Any help would be great

Thanks

Tony

I have to move SEPM 12.1 Small Business from an old failing server to a new VMware server; I have about 60 clients to move. In the past I have noticed that directions and fixes for the enterprise edition do not work for the small business edition, does anybody know if the Sylinkreplacer will work on Small business edition?? Or do I have to literally "remote-in" to every users PC delete old client and replace with new client from new server?

I will try; if any problem I will chase with you, is this fine for you.

Oct 26, 2011 12:07 PM

Below is the link to download the SylinkReplacer for SEP 12.1

http://www.mediafire.com/?7mw1n25yywdu1dq

password is Symantec (lowercase)

I tested it using a SEP 12.1 client which was not communicating with the SEPM and is was successful.

It bypasses the SEP 12.1 tamper protection.

Oct 11, 2011 04:48 PM

I gues you only hear from folks who had a problem with CW. I have used it on servers and desktops (PCs and laptops) for years with no issues.

I even used to prepare a new server for installing a SAV console or a SEPM with it.

To me it is a vital tool sometimes.

Thanks

Hello,

I just ran sylinkreplacer on my new SEPM server with Server '08.  All of our clients are win7 pro 64bit and they are not being found with sylinkreplacer.  Please don't tell me win7 pro 64 bit does not work with sylinkreplacer???

Sep 20, 2011 06:34 PM

I have the same issue as Stanleyj.   All xp systems updates sylink.  All win7 machines state "path not found".

No windows firewall or UAC turned on.     Does sylinkreplacer has a win 7 issue?

Sep 13, 2011 08:08 AM

Does anyone know how to get this tool to work on 64bit windows 7?  I have about 100 machines left and there all windows 7 and the tool will not replace the file.

Aug 08, 2011 02:39 PM

Hola estimados, probé, pero tengo problemas, me genera un archivo no_ping.txt, que puede estar pasando, revise el firwall y esta desactivado.-

I am unable to extract the files from the zip file.  It tells me that the password "symantec" is incorrect.

Jun 10, 2011 03:31 PM

Hey there,

I am an sys admin for the NG in TX and have domain privileges and local admin privileges to both my serves and my client machine.  when i run sylinkreplacer it keeps telling me i do not have rights or permissions.. any ideas?

May 04, 2011 11:28 PM

I like this tool

great thing pal..

Apr 26, 2011 05:14 AM

Hi,

You will have to stop Symantec service first before replacing sylink.xml file manually.

Follow the steps :

Start --> run --> smc -stop  ( It will stop the service)

Copy Sylink.xml file and replace under  c:\program files\Symantec\Symantec end point protection, it will ask you to over rite file, click yes.

Start --> run --> smc -start (it will start the service)

Apr 25, 2011 02:34 PM

Revently I migrated to a new server (same IP and server name). The sylinkreplacer tool worked great. But how would I perform the same process manually for machines that are not part of the Domain?

Thanks all for your help.

Hi Jaisankar,

I downloaded sylinkreplacer.zip and ran it, Symantec Auto Protect did not find any infection, I scanned it manually couple of times and found NO infection. Seems like this zip file is not infected.

Apr 18, 2011 11:09 PM

Hi All / Aniket,

today i tried to download the sylinkreplacer.zip and started the exe file in the zip. My McAfee has found a malware in it. ESUGReg.exe.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

Posting this tool in the forum here saves people a load of time contacting support. What still boggles my mind is why support would instead want to be swamped in useless support calls and requests when their should be a public area like this for all of Symantec's support tools.

Bravo to the user Aniket Amdekar for his insight by providing this tool publically in the forum...............

great tool i really need it for support

Feb 15, 2010 06:28 AM

Well, determining user accounts and groups by name is a common programming mistake. Luckily I only have a handfull of clients to fix.

Feb 14, 2010 02:44 PM

  Hi,

Yes it is a know issue that this tool fails on non english system, main reason being it referes to groups by name instead of ID's.
For example it will check that the account you are logged in belongs to the "administrators" group, which usually has a different name on Non English Windows.

Unfortunately there is no way around this, you can script the Sylinkdrop utility found on the tools folder of SEP CD2 instead.

Regards

Feb 14, 2010 01:33 PM

As far I remember this tool wasn't tested on Non English OS. However that should not matter if it failing at authentication.

Feb 14, 2010 11:34 AM

Is it possible that this nice little tool only works on english operating systems?

I just ran the tool sucessfully on a computer running Windows Server 2003 (English). On another domain, on a domain controller running Windows Server 2003 (German) the tool complains that I'm not a member of local or domain admin group.

Most of the times Support is not sure what is internal and what can be external otherwise this tool would have been out long time back..
But I still beleive Cleanwipe should be just internal.
