Endpoint Protection

  • 1.  SEP 14.3 - Slow Local File Access After Upgrade

    Dear Community,

I'm experiencing an issue with Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) and would appreciate any advice or guidance.

We had been using SEP 14.2, but due to the end of support for that version, we decided to upgrade to SEP 14.3. The upgrade was performed by installing SEP 14.3 over the existing 14.2 installation, without uninstalling the previous version. The installation completed without any noticeable errors.

However, after the upgrade, we began experiencing significant delays when opening local files (such as Word or Excel files). Each file takes more than 10 seconds to open. At first, I assumed this was due to some temporary scanning activity after the upgrade, but the issue persisted even after several days.

Due to the continued problem, I uninstalled SEP 14.3 completely and performed a clean installation, but the issue remains the same.

I've checked the SEP client logs and didn't find any specific errors or warnings that might indicate the cause.

If anyone has suggestions on what to check or how to resolve this issue, I would be very grateful.

The operating system in question is Windows 10.

Thank you in advance for your support.

    Hi Megumi,

Thanks for reaching out to the Broadcom Community.

To determine the solution, you would need to perform component isolation per kb:
    https://knowledge.broadcom.com/external/article/255167/component-isolation-steps-for-endpoint-p.html

Once you identify which SEP component is causing the issue then you can look into possible exclusions.

If however, you need assistance with component isolation, or finding a solution kindly open a ticket with Support!

    Thanks,

    Dear Russ_V,

Thank you very much for your kind and prompt response.
I will first try the component isolation steps you provided in the knowledge base article.
If I find it difficult to resolve the issue on my own, I will go ahead and open a support ticket for further assistance.

I appreciate your support and guidance.

    Best regards,
    Megumi
