Mind blowing

Rob,

On the Final day we spindled up to 2999. We selected 4 blades and wanted to start 511 VM's each.
But we encountered other problems that we did not expect.
Microsoft SQL crashed on to many connections.
The solution is to cluster SQL, but we did not have the time to do it.

So finally we hat the following:
2646 VM's running in on total 6 Blades. The other two blades were running 12 servers or managing the whole system.
we hat 462 VM's running on one blade and we let visitors pick a number. That number was then opened and the visitor could start software on that image. The speed was surprisingly high.
The Veeam guy's inserted their monitoring tools and they told us that with 462 VM's they measured 6 milliseconds latency.

Actually the message was that we could have a production density of over 400 VM's without any problem. We will tell the story of 250 like we did before.

Have you already voted for us?

DinamiQs and Symantec ruled the VDI space at VMworld.

Hey Erik-

Any updates on this??  How did the final stress test go on the last day?  I'm curious to find out how many PC's you were able to get on each blade.

Sure:

Cisco UCS blades, 2 socket quad core nehalem at 2.95 GHz with 48Gig of RAM per blade
EMC Symmetrix, 16 EFD (6.4TB raw), 20 TB of FC disks, 15krpm, 128GB cache
Nexus 7000, multiple 10 gig FCoE.

Perhaps Brian or Chris from Greenpages can comment on the exact configuration. I believe there will be much written about the configuration in the coming weeks, both by EMC, Cisco, Greenpages and the guys from VeeAM. At one point there were more VeeAM guys at our booth than Greenpages guys.

Hi
Could you give us hardware specs that you use in demo (RAM,CPU ect.)

Oops, we just ran into some resource problems on VirtualCenter at 2387 VMs. Trying to fix stuff now ;)

I just sent this off to the Directors here so see what they think.  It might be an interesting approach for University Lab environments to move away from a traditional 1 to 1 approach and into a cluser/hive/cloud environment with shared resources.  Thanks Erik.
