My college requires me to download Symantec endpoint protection in order to use the wifi, but I am having trouble downloading it.
I get the message Could not extract the correct file. Access is denied whenever I tried to download it. I have disables windows defender and I do not have KB2781197 on my windows 8 laptop.
Can anyone please help me??
i will post the SEP_INST when I get home if you really need it for this problem
Is this Windows 8 or 8.1?
About Windows 8 and Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1
Where are you downloading from?
What's the OS?
Delete it, run the install again immediately. let us know the result :)
You can post the SEP_INST.log and SIS_INST.log files located in %temp% directory
What logs do I need to gather in order to troubleshoot a failed SEP 12.1 client installation?
Or has it not downloaded for you to even install?
You do need credntials to access the download, do you have the correct ones?
You should just be able to download in a web browser, not sure why winrar would be needed
Sounds like it is already installed. Does SEP show under your All programs menu?
Do you see the yellow shield icon in the task tray?
Did you reboot the machine?
This was in the log:
4Symantec Endpoint Protection has detected that there are pending system changes that require a reboot. Please reboot the system and rerun the installation.
MSI (s) (98:F0) [12:23:13:399]: Product: Symantec Endpoint Protection -- 4Symantec Endpoint Protection has detected that there are pending system changes that require a reboot. Please reboot the system and rerun the installation.
If you already rebooted than open regedit and go to:
delete the value called PendingFileRenameOperations
Run the install again
Than just delete the reg key and run the install again.
Steps are here:
The value may come back so check the key again after reboot
Highlight SessionManager, the value should be on the right hand side
Ahh very good, glad it's all working :)
After downloading, does it have a .zip file extension?
When you highlight SessionManager, do you see the value on the right side?
you said you have already downloaded it, why are you downloading it again?
You just need to delete the key and run the install ( do not reboot)
Possible to post a screen shot?
If you have already downlaoded the file.
right click on the setup.exe selecdt properties
and select UNblock...
run the setup again
Check this document
delete the key and run the install
Thanks for using the forum..Good day!!
Key will be on the right side of SessionManger
Thats it .........End of message :)
