  • 1.  Boot from USB (bootwiz) results in INFO Package Download: Finished for package, package status: Retrying

    Posted Oct 12, 2021 08:23 AM

    Hi there,

I am experiencing some problems when trying to image a workstation by booting from USB generated with the bootwiz application. It starts up, connects to our NS and after that comes with an error where it says:

Package Download: Finished for package, package status: Retrying

It makes a connection and I can ping the server.

Other clients that boot directly from network does not expierence this problem. It is only when I boot from the USB-stick.

Please take a look into SMP*.logs located in x:\program files\symantec\deployment\logs in WinPE. There should be a reason why the package cannot be downloaded and pectagent is retrying

The error "Download package sources failed: Binary response validation failed" is not about missing file on the server, it's about security - agent was not able to validate the signature of NS response. The response contained the package information.
How old is your USB boot image? The image contains communication profile for your NS server, which should be up to date, the profile contains some server security data.

Another possibility is that you have NS hierarchy, there could be some scenarios leading to the problem. Have you got NS hierarchy?

The image was build less than a week ago with usb boot creator from altiris. Only 1 NS is in place so no hierarchy.

Thanks! Please take a look into pectagent.log and smp*.log files for any errors or warnings during pectagent boot.
Errors and warnings are marked by tags severity='1'  and severity='2'  in SMP.log files.

I'm sorry it took so long. If there is really only one error in pectagent.log, I'm afraid you will need to contact our official support. Some machine or WinPE specifics prevent pectagent.exe from reading our internal storage files.
