  • 1.  Exceptions and firewall rules not working

    We have a Windows Form application which works proper normally, but not working when Symantec firewall is enabled.

    We have tried below options:
    1.Added application exception in Symantec client.
    2.Added application exception in Symantec Manager.
    3.Added Rule to allow application In Firewall policy in Symantec manager.

    Still it didn't help. Disabling Firewall will allow application to work properly.


    Why the exceptions and firewall rules are not working? Is there any other method to make application work.

    There is a Network Activity Tool within the SEP Client which can help you.

    If you activate the firewall, you can use this tool to identify the process name(s), ports and protocols.
    It could really be, that the application use also ephemeral ports.

    In the past, it was also a good idea, to use Application learning within SEP temporary to create proper app based firewall rules.
