  • 1.  Upgrade from SMG 10.6.2-3 to 10.7.0

    Hi All,

As 10.6.2 is not more supported we need to upgrade to 10.7.  We understand that the only option is to set up a brand new 10.7 virtual appliance and transfer the settings manually.  I have a few questions about this process.

    1) Is there an option to export config from the current box and import them in a new box?
    2) We have both the version virtual appliances up and running,  however, 10.7 is on the first screen where it's requesting a license file.  We are unsure, if we will provide it the license file then our old production box (10.6.2-3) will get deactivated? We were hoping to get both versions up so that we can easily migrate the settings.
    3) Also, should we be migrating to 10.7.3 directly instead of 10.7.0? which one is more stable?.
    4) Also if we want to go to 10.7.3, is it available as a direct download for VM appliance or should we inplace upgrade our existing 10.7.0 appliance (it's totally vanilla as of now).

    TIA

    BR

    Hi Shishir

I have experience in that and I have a discussion open because there are not options to upgrade your SMG without reinstalling all, at this time, I hoping that Broadcom change this position.
    Well, your questions:
    1) No, no way. That's my discussion.
    2) If the license is valid, you can use in both versions.
    3) Yes you can migrate directly to 10.7.3, this is my recomendation, as you need rewrite all policies and bad/good senders list of course, do it in this version.
    4) See point 3.

Carlos is correct. You will need to follow the instructions here: Messaging Gateway 10.6.5 and earlier cannot download rules or software updates.

As far as migration, per the article I linked: Schemas change on every major version (10.5.x to 10.6.0, for example), so there is no way to import rules/settings from a previous version to 10.7.3.

    Just to confirm,

    1. The settings backup is only for restoration on the same version, so you cannot move the settings from older version to the newer version this way.
You can backup your good / bad senders list and import on the new system. Any certificates you have installed on the system can also be exported and imported on the new system.
    2. The license file is not restricted on the number of servers you can run, so you can run the old system and new at the same time without issue.
    3. We recommend going to the latest version 10.7.3-5.
    4. The ISO for 10.7.3-5 should be available for download in the support portal. You can also upgrade from 10.7.0 to 10.7.3-5 if you choose. I would recommend the direct install of 10.7.3-5 if you have the option.
