  • 1.  What happens when maintenance expires

    Good Morning,

I am trying to figure out what happens when maintenance expires. I have seen a couple community posts that say everything will still work except getting new patches.

This article makes it seem like everything stops working.

Can anyone confirm if the solutions will still work after maintenance expires?

    Thanks

The only thing that stops is the patch metadata download. You cannot download the latest patch data without a current maintenance/subscription license. If you don't use patch then nothing changes and you can carry on using what you have indefinitely. Have you been caught out by the dropping of maintenance and replacement with high cost subscription licenses too?

    Thanks for the info!

We had a couple things come up. While renewing we had a question about the billing and the 3rd party vendor cannot get in contact with Broadcom to get our question answered. We also noticed that the cost for a 1 year license was going to be just about 1.5 times the cost of our last 3 year contract.

We are currently in a not sure what is going to happen but even if we renew with how slow broadcom is we won't get the contract renewed in time, which is why I wanted to find out what would happen.

Getting answer to questions is difficult as Broadcom removed the layer of sales and sales support staff that used to provide this and shifted the responsibility onto distributors and partners. Turn around for licenses/sales though is reasonably good.

with regards pricing/licenses Broadcom have dropped all license types except subscription licenses. There are no maintenance licenses any more. If you want to maintain your software you must buy a subscription license which basically means you are buying the software over again - every year. Subscription licenses which contain the right to use are considerably more expensive than maintenance licenses. So your 1 year price at 1.5 times the 3 year price is right while a new 3 year price will be 4.5 times your old 3 year price. There are no discounts, special deals, etc.

While simplifying the whole system is to be applauded the consequences on existing customers with perpetual licenses is severe and the lack of a practical migration to the new approach is not good, especially as there has been nothing given for customers to justify these changes internally. Hope this helps.
