  • 1.  MS Upgrade as Dinamic Update

    Posted Apr 08, 2021 04:15 AM
    Hello All,

We need to launch the MS 20H2 upgrade as Dynamic Update, but we dont know how to do it using PAtch Management. We know how to do it using Software delivery because for using Dynamic update we only have to add one option in the command line:

    "setup.exe" /quiet /noreboot /Auto:Upgrade /showoobe none /DynamicUpdate Enable /Copylogs %SystemDrive%\ProgramData\temp

But using Patch management, we dont know where we should include this option, and we need to use PAtch Management because the upgrades are managed automatically so we dont have to take into consideration the different language packs that are installed in our computers (in our region we have more than 10 different languages).

Using Patch management, we know that the command line can be changed but we dont know how to modify it in order to include the Dynamic Update option:

We have followed this TECH Article, in fact is the one that we are following from the beginning, but here is not explained how to modify the command line insering MS updates options. We can't find the swuenv.bat file that maybe could give us any clue. We guess that maybe this file is generated dynamically.

Any help or advice will be welcome!

    Thanks a lot.

    Saludos, Best Regards

    Hi Pablo,

according to this article from Microsoft Dynamic Update is turned ON by default for all unattended upgrades using ISO file.

If you still need to customize the process of OS installation during Windows 10 upgrade you can use instruction from KB173085 to provide custom SetupConfig.ini. Originally this capability was implemented to support Windows 10 feature update installation on encrypted drives but could be used for other scenarios as well.

    Thanks,
    Dmitri.
