    Hi
I recall doing SEPM12 upgrade required to know the embedded database password.
I have not yet done any SEPM14 upgrade. Doing a SEPM14.2 to 14.3. Does this ask for the database password?
    Thanks,
    DM

Yes. To upgrade the database you will need DB password during upgrade of SEPM.

    Hi John
    Thanks for the quick response.
OK, i am in trouble then, as i don't have the sem5 password.
I have seen some posts in the forum about recovering sem5 password.

    https://community.broadcom.com/symantecenterprise/communities/community-home/digestviewer/viewthread?MessageKey=1c07539d-2a19-42b0-9526-fdadc940864b&CommunityKey=1ecf5f55-9545-44d6-b0f4-4e4a7f5f5e68&tab=digestviewer#bm1c07539d-2a19-42b0-9526-fdadc940864b

Do you know if this process will work with SEPM 14.2?
If not, is there a process i can follow to recover the password?

    Thanks,
    DM

Sure thing. Are you using Embedded Database or SQL?

For Embedded you can use the Configuration Wizard.

If using SQL you can change it in the SQL Management Studio.  The link you posted is not supported and I don't believe it works with 14.x any longer.

    Hi John.
Fantastic... that is so much easier than the hack way.
By the way, is there a way to test the database password before i reset it?
I would like to try few passwords, before i reset.

    Thanks
    DM

hmm. You could try to manually query the embedded database.

Querying the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager embedded database (14.0+)
    1. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\ASA\win32
    2. Launch dbisqlc.exe
    3. Under Authentication, User ID is: DBA, Password: The original Admin password created when you first installed the SEPM (if the embedded database password has never been changed using the Management Server Configuration Wizard)
    4. Choose the dropdown next to action, change it to Connect with an ODBC Data Source
    5. Select ODBC Data Source Name, then in the drop down, select SymantecEndpointSecurityDSN
    6. Click OK

Very welcome. I would advise backup up your database before upgrading just to be safe.

    Hi John.
    The upgrade went smoothly.
And, as an added bonus, it did not ask me for the database password :)

I do have one issue though. I have one client that is running the client 14.3.
Everything seems to be updated, except for the field "Download Protection Definitions". It shows as "0", where as all the older clients have a date in them.
Have attached a screenshot. Do you know what that field refers to?
    Thanks
    DM

    Hi John

    Please ignore my previous message.
It sorted itself out, after the client server got rebooted again. So all good.

    Thanks again!!
