Symantec/Broadcom has some stupid employees working for them. They wanted me to do all the dirty work for them when they could have easily tested this in their lab and would have gotten the same results. I was told they don't even have a lab environment where they can test, really? The ticket was escalated and even that tech was stupid. Some of the questions I was asked "What do you hope to use the VIE tool for?" and "Is the result the same after running a repair on the SEPM?". The guy was so stupid he didn't know what the vietool was and supposedly he was second level tech.
I couldn't deal with the stupidity and gave up. Sorry for the harsh words, but support sucks.
If you look in event viewer, you will see an error when it happens.
The NMToolWorkerservice service has terminated unexpectedly.

Virtual Image Exception tool crashes

Symptom: The Virtual Image Exception tool (vietool) crashes. Event logs show that the NMToolWorkerService service terminated unexpectedly.
Solution: Handle the error message gracefully if the file's full name is too long.
Off course this time it could be totally unrelated to the previous fix.
