    Bumping this up to see if anyone actually uses the vietool. 
    Yes, I have a support call open, but they are useless.

    We are using vietool und having the same problem.

    Did you get any solution from your support case?

    Unfortunately, No.

    Symantec/Broadcom has some stupid employees working for them. They wanted me to do all the dirty work for them when they could have easily tested this in their lab and would have gotten the same results. I was told they don't even have a lab environment where they can test, really? The ticket was escalated and even that tech was stupid. Some of the questions I was asked  "What do you hope to use the VIE tool for?" and "Is the result the same after running a repair on the SEPM?". The guy was so stupid he didn't know what the vietool was and supposedly he was second level tech.

    I couldn't deal with the stupidity and gave up. Sorry for the harsh words, but support sucks.

    If you look in event viewer, you will see an error when it happens. 
    The NMToolWorkerservice service has terminated unexpectedly.

    Virtual Image Exception tool crashes

    Fix ID: 3705283

    Symptom: The Virtual Image Exception tool (vietool) crashes. Event logs show that the NMToolWorkerService service terminated unexpectedly.

    Solution: Handle the error message gracefully if the file's full name is too long.

    Off course this time it could be totally unrelated to the previous fix.

    I guess someone finally figured out there is a problem, received an email with the below.

    A bug has been created and I'm waiting for the number to provide you with to monitor the issues fixed. I doubt it will make it into 14.3 MP1 that is slated for release in July, but it gives you a point of reference for your VIE tool correction.

    I will update the case when the bug has been verified from dev.

    Thank you for your answer. Good to hear that this problem will be addressed.

    In the meantime we also openened a support call. But we are still dealing with the basics... ;-)

    I'm regret SO MUCH renewing our Symantec licenses with Broadcom in May.  Had I known the lack of service and knowledgeable support I would receive (at a larger price than I'd paid before) I would have never done it. But I will have to give the company credit for setting up this forum for its customers was a great idea. It is a win-win for Broadcom.  It fills the gap for enhanced customer support that their own staff cannot provide AND they can use it as a training resource for their own employees to learn from.  I've already advise our IT consultants to be looking for a different vendor ASAP that offers an affordable, reliable, product and where the support team is knowledgeable in their field.

    Hey John, did you ever hear any follow up back from Broadcom regarding this? Did they provide the fix ID or any indication of when this will be corrected? Thanks.

    I just upgraded from 14.2.1 to 14.3.1 and I am unable to find the vietool.exe file.  I expected to find it in C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tools but no such luck.

    Can someone tell me where they located the file?

    You can find vietool.exe in the full installation package under ..\Tools\Virtualization\VirtualImageException\
    But it is not working in 14.3.1

    VieTool has been fixed for 14.3 and 14.3 MP1 and can be found here:  They next release should have the fixed version as well.

    Seems to have worked for me on 1909 with August windows updates.

    I'm having issues as well.  I used the 14.3.558.0 tool and it hung at 50% utilization and stayed there for almost 24 hours.  Then just repeated Access Denied over and over.
    So I downloaded the latest and greatest, 14.3.
    Now it runs for a couple seconds and errors out:
    10/13/2020 8:36:29 AM SUCCESS: File System Redirection Disabled
    10/13/2020 8:36:29 AM ERROR: Unable to open file c:\pagefile.sys
    10/13/2020 8:36:32 AM ERROR: Unable to open file c:\swapfile.sys

    10/13/2020 8:36:34 AM ERROR: Service terminated unexpectedly

    Help!

    It is not working for me either, but I do not get an error.  It starts but never completes.  I have let it run for hours.  In task manager, it is using about 50% of the cpu the whole time.  Never had an issue with the tool on this same image when we were on 14.2.
