 Scaling PAM Instances

Hi Team,

We are running PAM on AWS.
We wish to scale the instance type and storage capacity for this PAM instance.

When changing the instance type for the current PAM instance, the following condition was set:
Only instance types with x86 (32-bit) / (64-bit) architecture can be selected.
Would an instance type meeting PAM's specifications (8 cores, 32GB+ memory) and this condition be acceptable?

We created the PAM instance with 80GB of storage.
We detached this storage, expanded it to 120GB, and then reattached it.
The expanded storage was reattached after optimization completed.
No issues have arisen in our tested environment, but could problems occur?

Thanks,

Using hardware specifications of 8 cores, 32GB+ memory is acceptable for medium to low usage of a PAM appliance so in many cases that is fine. If you find any performance issues you may want to consider raising the ram to 64 gig.

Increasing the hard disk space above 80 is suggested in some scenario's when free disk space becomes limited. You can always increase disk space in the same method you did but please keep in mind you cannot lower it after it has been increased. You should not see any negative performance because of the increase.

Thanks for your answer.

The manual only says up to 64GB of memory, but if we change to an instance type with more than 64GB of memory, will we be able to effectively use that expansion?

Will more than eight cores lead to an increase in processing power?

There are several PAM customers who do have more than the 64 gig of ram set but they have only set it higher due to specific performance reasons. Generally 64 gig is the best choice for most medium to high usage levels.

Additionally 8 CPUs are enough for most PAM installations with only minor performance gains above the 8 even though you can set the appliance higher.

We would only suggest increasing RAM and CPU above our default recommendations when performance issues indicate a specific reason to increase these.
