 NFA OS migration issue

Hello everyone,

I'm preparing NFA migration procedure for moving current NFA v23.3.13 (2 Win2016 servers - 1 Harvester and 1 Console) to new servers and latest NFA version. The issue I need to solve is this:

Broadcom officially supports Win2019 and Win2022 OS, along with RHEL8 and 9. With a constraint that Console is just supported on Win. So Win is the only option.

Customer is using Win2025, they don't have Win2019 and Win2022.

Win2019 has been end of life back in 2024.

Win2022 goes end of life in October this year.

Do you have an idea how to solve this problem with OS versions? Has anybody installed NFA on Win2025?

Hi Omar,

Unfortunately, support for NFA on Windows 2025 is not possible at the moment, this is due to fact that NFA uses mysql 8.x and this version of mysql does not support Windows 2025.

Omar,

Yes, you are correct in that:

  • NFA Console - is only avaiable under Windows Server. There are NO plans on having it available under RHEL.
  • NFA Harvester - is available for Windows and RHEL.

TBH, even though I am a big Linux fan (and run it just about everywhere and have done so for decades), I would be reluctant to specify a Linux Harverster. There are known issues around doing this sort of thing for the Harvester and so it is best avoided.

Concerning dates - there is a difference between EOS and EOL - in particular with Windows Server editions. The end of mainstream support for Win2k22 is on 13th Oct 2026. However, this is just mainstream support. There are several levels of support that Microsoft go into. Mainstream is only the first level. The actual EOL date for Win2k22 is not till 24th Oct 2031. Therefore, you have at least 5 years left for 2k22. As such, you should still expect to see service packs and that sort of thing released for 2k22 for awhile yet.

I should add that the above doesn't preclude me stating that it is good to support new Windows releases - I am absolutely for this.

Also, I think that there are .NET dependencies and the such like that means that you are stuck with these Windows versions.

The obvious path to think about is DX Flow. However, I understand that this is more of a revolution rather than evolution as far as upgrade paths are concerned.

Regards,

Ed

So what's the situation with DX Flow? Is it available, coming soon, not so soon,...? Should I start thinking of replacing NFA with it?
