Currently the DELAY68 and DELAY85 options reduce the number of unnecessary job failures for those return codes at URT open time. We request that this same feature be extended to return code 88 processing at URT open time.
In this way, multi-user applications (Cobol, CA Ideal etc.) that need access to a dbid or area that has briefly been taken offline (ACCESS OFF/READ/UTLTY) would simply wait for the dbid/area to be made available (ACCESS WRITE) for up to DELAY88=n minutes.
If the database/area becomes available within that time, the job would proceed to open the URT normally. If the database/area remains unavailable at DELAY88=n expiry then the job would fail with RC 88(nnn) as now.
