Process monitoring

Is there a way to distinguish a process to be monitored using the full path instead of just the process name? Our issue is that we have multiple instances of Apache running on the same server but they run from different paths however the process name for both is httpd and there are no parameters that can be used to distinguish the two processes. So when we turn up process monitoring we cannot distinguish between the two different httpd processes, but they do start from different path so it would be nice if the path could be used to define what process to monitor.

Is it completed?

I had a case opened with support regarding this just recently. I would very much like to see some improvements to make process monitoring more useful. As it is, for my situation, much like the original poster's, Spectrum's process monitoring is useless. Supporting some basic enhancements such as regex matching would be hugely beneficial.

I have reopened the idea again. We are evaluating this again. Thanks for comments. We will get back soon.

This is what was always frustrating to me as a Spectum user on a limited budget. Instead of enhancing features within the product, CA will often tell you to buy an additional product. Especially in cases like this were it is an existing feature but just with limited capabilities, this can be very frustrating.

How come it took 5 years to figure out this answer? I feel like this is an answer you should have been able to come up with the day the idea reached 30 votes.

Dear Spectrum Community Users,

Spectrum have this capability via VAIM. And we also have UIM which is another product in our portfolio which does a better job with this. So we would not be pursuing this idea further with Spectrum.

Feedback, comments, critics as always are appreciated.

It's been more than a year since the last update, is there any news on this idea?

06-20-2015 02:11 AM

I'll go for it. This is now a problem more on the non-windows boxes.

Thanks for posting the idea for CA Spectrum. We are currently reviewing this and will soon provide an update.

Will be a nice feature for AIX boxes as few processes restart with different parameters from the same path.

Isn't this a limitation of RFC2790 and not Spectrum itself? hrSWRunPath is not reliably populated. I'd love to see CA do something here, but I do not think there is much more you can extract from the snmp service.

RFC2790 Process Monitoring has always been a weakness for SPECTRUM/eHealth.... So any help in this area is always a good thing. I'll have to look at 9.4 more now that I know some changes for this made it in there.

Done, please vote now and encourage others too.

A yes from myself as well

We haven't gotten to vote. It's locked down. Please unlock it so that we can actually vote on it. I didn't consider my request to re-open voting as a vote. As far as I can tell, only one commenter actually indicated his position on the vote. The others (myself included) only mentioned that we'd like to vote, not which way we'd vote.

08-05-2014 08:15 AM

Thanks folks, any more votes?

I'd like to add my vote too

Me too

07-28-2014 04:55 PM

I too would like to vote for this idea.

07-24-2014 08:50 AM

I'd like to vote on this.

We have added granularity to process monitoring with 9,4

But what you suggest is not planned and even after over 3 years, only few votes.

Will be good too use wildcards or regular expression when a process is monitored. And not only differenciate its with the parameters.. sometimes the parameters change and the process start again.

Bye, Diego Pereyra
