Throttle Solve:MAI delete old reports

Added for customer 577341.

 

Using /PSM I tried to delete old reports up to a date (Option A.CS). This create a hang in MAI. No users could log on, no users could switch sessions, MAI did not respond to MODIFY commands. Users in a current session were unaffected. Forced to CANCEL Solve:MAI. We had to take a production outage.

 

Created an incident, and was told that eventually Solve would have caught up and all would have been fine. We had waited over 20 minutes and it WASN'T fine.

The SOLVE/NetMaster Sustaining Engineering team have create a fix to avoid the problems of the Clear Spool operation when there are a large number of items.

DESC  (PSM CLEAR SPOOL CAUSES SYSTEM SLOWDOWN)

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

The PSM Clear Spool action creates concurrent file delete requests

resulting in control interval conflicts, multiple retries and reduced

availability of the VSAM subtask for other workloads.

 

SYMPTOMS:

/PSM.CS update status shows a slowing rate of activity. Access to

the UAMS file results in queueing and results in poor response

times for the primary menu, MAI menu and logon/logoff processing.

 

IMPACT:

System appears hung for most users.

 

CIRCUMVENTION:

Use the Delete action from /PQ.
