Nearly every new release brings new functions to us.

But: Who knows, how to use them?

I don't know any offer from CA Education for update courses (especially for Spectrum)

Here are some suggestions to CA:

- At least 4 weeks after a new version was released, share detailed presentations of all new functionalities.
- At least 4 weeks after a new version was released, let CA Education create and offer Web based Trainings for the new functionalities.
- Let CA Education offer classroom courses such as "Differences from Spec 9.2.0 to 9.4.2" (with dates, before 9.4 is "End of Support")

We have received positive feedback on our new approach to Release notes and Documentation with links to YouTube videos ... we are planning to align quality of approach across all our NetOps products. Thank you for the great feedback and attention on this - keep your constructive feedback coming!

Excellent thanks for the feedback i will speak to my colleagues to align approaches - i really like what the team did here!

This is outstanding!  Will this format be getting added to all products?  For  my folks, specifically:  NFA, ADA and UCM?

Wow that's awesome Larry - can you access the CA Performance Management Documentation and specifically this section: https://docops.ca.com/ca-performance-management/3-1/en/release-notes/new-features-and-enhancements this is a new design with your goals in mind - if you can access can you take a look and share your feedback if this is hitting the mark. If so then i will work with my colleages to do the same across all products - Each new release will have in the Release notes a "New Features and Enhancements" section and included with text will be You Tube Videos -

Daniel,

Due to the size of our user base 500+, ultimately and training sessions that would be done should be captured to video for replay.  Or, you could produce training videos as a solution.

Internally, we have a What’s New page within our website.  We use it to introduce new features, capabilities and or products to our user base.  We have found it to be a very effective tool.  We would download your videos, post them to this area for 60 days and then archive them to our End-User training repository.

I would like to get feedback from the community if you have seen progress in this area? As one of the top 10 voted requests I am challenging our Product Management team to focus on this idea. We have a few new things we want to do this year but a question came up if improvements to our release notes - community webcasts - what's new guides that we have been pushing to sales are having an impact so we can identify deliverables that have the best impact for you. Candid feedback is welcome - thanks!

Good idea. Each Version should have a Manual that Shows the new Features for the user and for the administrator. I also find the web presentations for CAPM sprint versions very good.

Found this "hidden" in the Water Cooler:

What is your preferred method of training?

03-25-2016 08:10 PM

Hi Kiran,

Any updates for us yet?

03-03-2016 02:39 AM

I agree about updates. I'm doing 3  courses next week to cover CA Performance Management and find its on version 2.3. Its the same course and material my colleague did 1.5 years ago. The current version is 2.7

There used to be "delta"-trainings for other products as well. I think some good webcasts would be fine - the efforts of having real-classroom trainings seem to be too high.

After speaking at length with a CA Sales Engineer I feel that the CA Consultants are the ones who have a wealth of information that they have gained in the field installing and setting up CA products.  It would be nice if CA would take this valuable information and create operations manuals, how-do documents, etc for their products.  Quite honestly the Spectrum courses were not all that great with real world examples.

Good to hear! We are eagerly awaiting some news!

Hello Kiran,

O.k., I'll let me surprise!

Regards, Frank

Hey Frank,

Hear you!!

Last month, at an internal QBR, I met with our Education Program Manager, Vern Palango. We talked about this exact same thing and both of us acknowledged the fact that some of the courses lack depth to a frustrating level for the users. We are working on some plans.
We want to have something updated and posted very soon - just wanted to update that we have some things going on in the backend, we will keep you all updated.

Thank you  Margaret for the link, but the only thing, I can learn there is, how deep CA Education sleeps.

There is only :

http://www.ca.com/us/collateral/course-offering/na/ca-spectrum-infrastructure-manager-r9-4-operator-200.aspx

I'm sure, this is helpful for beginers, but not more.

And the  classroom offers are not really better.

Why isn't it possible to  offer there "The differences between Spectrum 9.4 and 10.1?" or "New functions since Spectrum 9.2" or something like that before we reach Spectrum version 13.
Regards,

Frank

Short, downloadable videos explaining the new function with a demonstration of how to use, configure and get optimal use from it would be very helpful.  Ideally, something that we administrators could post on an internal website or push out to our users to encourage adoption.

Hello David,

I will talk about this more on the community webcast on 21st, but all new features of Spectrum 10.0 will be available at the time of GA as videos (along with documentation)

Kiran Diwakar

Please post new videos. The current Spectrum video is quite old

Also keep an eye on CA Education's free webcast series. Sign-up for future events and view past sessions here: CA Education Webcast Series - CA Technologies.

You will find free Spectrum and Performance Manager courses at: Free Web-Based Training - CA Technologies.

Hello Opnet,

Absolutely! While some other groups in CA like UIM, Mobility etc have done a great job in the past, in the Spectrum world, we are trying to catch up and if you notice, since 9.4 onwards, we do release videos (short sub-10 mins) for specific functionality. Be it LACP, UIM integration and others. We have around a dozen videos that we now have (Frank alluded to one below as well).

We plan to continue to do so with 10.0 too. There are two things: scheduled webcast in April where I will be presenting and demoing key new features in 10.0 and then also releasing youtube videos for the same.

We heard this sentiment loud and clear and hence last 8 months, we have dedicated people churning out videos. CA has an official youtube channel called CA Educate. If you search "CA Spectrum" on youtube, you will find a ton of videos that CA has put together.

In any case, I take this as a critique where we could definitely churn out more videos and actually advertise them more

Please keep this feedback coming..

Kiran Diwakar

If you want to see some training videos that will make you envious take a look at Spectrum's competition-HP Intelligent Management Center (IMC) on youTube. It's enough to make to wonder why CA can't do anything like this or why we have to continue to wait and wait

I agree!   I haven't heard from my sales team in years; not even sure if I have one any more.  More webcasts on youtube with solid technical content on IM would be very welcome..it's much easier to find things on youtube than on the CA site imho.

02-24-2015 11:14 AM

I agree with this as well!  Community Management has made the request to CA Support, CA Education to produce more videos, because we know the community wants them.  I appreciate the reminder and will follow up with the internal teams.  Thanks for the comment!

02-24-2015 11:11 AM

hi Chris,  I hear you and I agree.    Webcasts should be more closely aligned with new releases to cover exactly what you describe. In fact, we are looking to do more mini-webcasts that are shorter in duration but higher impact to cover things like new features.  If you have a specific request for a  topic - be sure to DM me any requests or ideas you might have and I will work with product management to see what can be done.  We welcome your input and feedback.

for your video

The next point in my list of suggestions is:

- Please produce more of such videos.

02-11-2015 10:28 AM

I'm voting for this one...  you shouldn't have to be lucky enough to maybe get a presales engineer to proactively give you a webex that covers the new features as they come out!

02-11-2015 08:16 AM

That's one of the things that NetQoS used to do really well. They always

have a "What's new in product X" presentation for their internal sales team

so they know how to position the new features against competitors. This is

something the community board can ensure gets presented in the monthly

webcasts. This has happened recently with the Spectrum updates that have

come out. However, I'd like to see something on ADA10.
