Allow to set a maintenance starting now with only end-time

It would be quite useful to be able to set a device in maintenance in Spectrum giving only the end-of-maintenance time. Thus the maintenance would start right after the click and automatically finish at the end-time specified.

At the moment, we can't specify the end of a maintenance without putting the start time (through a schedule model object) and when we have a maintenance to set-up we need to schedule it with a start time a minute ahead and the proper end time.

Team, do we have any update on this idea? It's been a long time.

Hi Nagesh,

was the release of v 10.2.1 close enough?

Your last statement is now more than 9 months or at least 2 versions old.

Yes, that would be nice. Keeping a "currently planned" idea for 4 years is a bit embarrassing...

Hi Nagesh,

could you please define "close future" ?

Please put this four-years old "currently planed" idea again on your list.

Damir

Hi Christophe_Sperandio,

Close future .

Thanks,

Nagesh

Does that mean "close" future or "far" future?

Dear Spectrum Community Members,

My apologies for late response. This is idea is planned for future releases of Spectrum.

Thanks,

Nagesh

This idea has been under review for quite a while.  Is there any news yet?

05-11-2016 06:55 AM

Now we are in 2016 and this idea has 49 votes.

Is there a chance for an end of the review?

Notifying for maintenance you can do with the AlarmNotifier as "MAINTENANCE" is a sort of Alarm as others (Event ID 0x1022)

And end time would be good, but also add perhaps also allow the option to say:

Take device out of maintenance mode n hours from now. So you could put things in maintenance mode for a few hours without having to work out what exact time that would be.

Our operators need this function more and more.

E.g. if they want to set the equipment of a home office user in maintenance mode until he returns from holidays.

Requests for this are becoming increasingly.

If you are looking at enhancing maintenance mode in general, you could also consider the ability to define template schedules based on default SLA agreements so you can pick from those whenever you add a system to Spectrum. For example in our case 90% of our systems will have a standard window for maintenance on either the 1st, 2nd or 3rd Wednesday of the month.

Hello All,

Some more votes would be helpful here. Also, are there any other scenarios we would want to consider?

We plan to line this up for review.

To be honest the Maintenance mode in Spectrum is probably good for many, but it does need a lot more TLC.

Firstly, you have no visibility of what is happening to the device while it is in Maintenance mode - which has forced us to do custom 'tagging' of attributes and then using this as a 'Scheduled Work' and/or 'Break/Fix' filter.

Secondarly if you have a large domain accross timezones it becomes tricky if you want to schedule an 8 hour working window for all regions at the same time (since all servers deal with local time of the server). Again you have to write custom scripts to convert times to UTC and then work out what time the local time is and 'manage' the timezones.

It would be great if you could have options as descript above, including - stay in maintenance mode for x hours, go out of maintenance mode in x hours and/or a combination of these.

The Scheduler also works but that again can include a lot more features.

We currently use a lot of restful to automate this and even use mail notifications which is also something CA could add here. If you have devices going in 'Maintenance' mode, it is usually helpful to notify some mail group when it goes into or out of Maintenance mode.

HI Bill,

What would be great is if Maintenance was selectable as a calendar option but I voted this up to raise the awareness.

Isn't the Maintenance scheduling getting a complete rewrite/rework?  If so, then I am hoping that this and other improvements to the use of scheduling will be considered during that rewrite.

Yes we do I would really appreciate this feature as we deal with a lot of schools where monitoring is switched off for some 6 weeks in the summer etc.

This idea is over a year old, do we have any more votes for it?

The maintenance scheduling is very confusing to our users.  This is a great idea.  Another option would be to have the option of putting the device into hibernation at the end of the maintenance period.  That way if the maintenance period runs long, the device wouldn&#39;t alarm until after Spectrum can reach it.<br><br>
