one of our customers added some comments within EventDisp files.
If he then modifies the configuration with the Event Configurator, the comments are no longer available.
It seems that the corresponding EventDisp file is compiled again, after the changes were saved and therefore the comments disappear.

So it would be nice, if it is possible to keep the comments within the EventDisp files.
Otherwise, the customer has to add them every time, after he made some modifications with the EC.

Thank you, Nagesh.

I understand, that you can't say more, but please, wait not to long.

And ...

here is the link for the new idea:

Don't destroy formattings of the Spectrum EventDisp and CsEvFormat files after modifications with the Event Configurator

Hello Frank_Elliger,

Sorry for late reply on this. As per legal guidelines I cannot refer or comment on specific release . But this is in our radar and we want to pursue this.

Yes. We will need a separate idea for formatting. We are considering this idea to take care the comments part.

Yes, please, i hate when the update delete all comments =)

Hi, Nagesh_Jaiswal,

could  you  explain "for next release of Spectrum" a lit bit more.

At the DACHSUG Meeting in October Kathy Hickey spoke about Spectrum 10.1.1.

Do you mean this?

And when will something happen with formatting?

Do you need a separate idea for  this?

Regards, Frank

Hi christian_h,

Not yet. But we will prioritized this for next release of Spectrum.

Hi Nagesh,

do you have any information within which relase this will be fixed/implemented ?

07-22-2015 12:32 PM

Hi Andre_H,

We are right now only focusing to retain the comments in EventDisp file. Formatting part is under review.

Hi Nagesh,

thanks for the feedback. One question, is it planned to set the feature for the EventDisp file only or for the CsEvFormat, too?

This idea is lined up and planned for future releases of CA Spectrum.

07-02-2015 06:30 AM

Hi Nagesh,

I do see the same behavior for the CsEvFormat files. As soon as I save an event in the GUI, the content of CsEvFormat file will be set in a single line, too. The single lined content does not provide a good overview about the contents.

So all in all a save at the GUI site

- formatting of EventDisp and CsEvFormat files will be lost

- all comments in EventDisp will be lost

Both effects have a negative impact for a well-structured event customization.

Do you have any first results of your investigation?

Thanks for the update Frank_Elliger

We will review this as well.

Hi Nagesh,

not only the comments  will be lost, , but also any formatting.

Here an example:

My version:

0x210c0e R CA.EventCondition, "(regexp({v 3}, {S \"Syslog\"}) && regexp({v 4}, {S \"ASA\"}))" , "0xfff11001 -:-", /

               "(regexp({v 3}, {S \"OVERTEMP\"}))" , "0xfff14001 -:-", /

               "({v 2} == {I 1}) || ({v 2} == {I 2})" , "0x21001c -:-", /

               "({v 2} == {I 3}) || ({v 2} == {I 4})" , "0x21001b -:-", /

               "({v 2} == {I 5})" , "0x21001a -:-", /

               "default" , "0x210017 -:-"

"Spectrums version":

0x210c0e R CA.EventCondition, "(regexp({v 3}, {S \"Syslog\"}) && regexp({v 4}, {S \"ASA\"}))" , "0xfff11001 -:-","(regexp({v 3}, {S \"OVERTEMP\"}))" , "0xfff14001 -:-","({v 2} == {I 1}) || ({v 2} == {I 2})" , "0x21001c -:-","({v 2} == {I 3}) || ({v 2} == {I 4})" , "0x21001b -:-","({v 2} == {I 5})" , "0x21001a -:-","default" , "0x210017 -:-"

If you use both methods (editing the event disp files and sometimes the EventConfiguration), you will get this effect.

Regards, Frank

Thanks al.sorrell. We will further review this and get back with an update.

This has been a long-standing issue with Spectrum. If you create your EventDisp file by hand, and include comments, e.g.

0xfff00109 E 50 A 1, 0xfff00109

If you then go into Tools > Utilities > Event Configuration and make any change, all of the comments embedded in the EventDisp file will be lost when you exit and save the file,

Thanks for posting this idea for CA Spectrum.

We need more clarification on this idea. Exact steps to reproduce would help.
