We are interested in trying to use e-mail address or something longer than 8 characters to authenticate users.  Something that may be able to match the requirements on our other platforms.  We are not running out of unique ACIDs.  We are just trying to sync across platforms and we may want to change what we are using as ACID now.  There are other ways of doing this but it would make our life easier if we could just extend the ACID field.

We would also be interested to extend acid lengths, in particular for profiles.  It can become difficult to compress all the information describing a granular TSS profile into an 8 character name.  (For example, a profile covering MQSeries resources for a given environment, queue manager, application, country and user type.)   Even if a naming convention could be found to compress that much information into 8 characters, it may become incomprehensible to most users.  It is desirable for a naming convention to remain user-friendly so that the purpose of a profile is easy to recognise.  To this end, a 12 or 16 character name would be beneficial.

One thing you need to keep in consideration is that Top Secret is limited by the support that IBM has written into SAF and the RACROUTE Macro's.  One suggestion I have is, have you looked into Kerberos support on z/OS?
