How to Send Documentation to CA Technical Support.

When a Support Engineer asks you to send documentation to CA, he/she will provide you with the name of a secure ftp directory where you can put your documentation files.

GATHERING and PREPARING THE DOCUMENT FILES

If the support engineer requests a list of the fixes that you have on your VM product, log on to VMANAGER and issue the command VMPTFS vmaaaa where vmaaaa = the name of the product, for example, VMPTFS VMTAPE for a list CA VM:Tape fixes deployed.

n.b. VMPTFS is available on VM:Manager 1.2 and on VM:Manager 1.1 with RO47254.

If you are asked for a dump, or if a CA VM product abended and did not automatically take a dump, log on to the product userid (i.e. log on to VMTAPE) and issue the command:

VMDUMP 0-END.

Be sure to collect and provide product and user console files that document the problem.

Before sending a document, please pack it using COPYFILE:

COPYFILE in-fn in-ft in-fm out-fn out-ft out-fm (PACK

SENDING THE DOCUMENTATION FILES

To send the requested file to CA via secure ftp, most customers can send the file directly from their mainframe. Some facilities may have firewall or other prohibitions. Make sure all packed files are sent in BINARY mode. The following commands will usually do the job.

VMLINK TCPIP

ftp supportftp.ca.com

myid@aaa.com            <=== Your support.ca.com userid

password                <=== Your support.ca.com password

bin                     <=== Sets mode to binary

cd /0nnnnnn/nnnnnnnn-01/files_from_customer  <== From CA support

put mydump.DUMPPACK.A vmdump.bin

put vmproduct.CONSPACK.A PRODCONS.bin

put SYSTEM.CONSPACK.A SYSCONS.bin

quit
