Subject: GA announcement: Promote adoption of Linear VSAM support - System dataset naming flexibility
Members of the Datacom CADRE Community,
Datacom's support for Linear VSAM datasets provides possible additional zIIP offload and allows the adoption of IBM-provided Pervasive Encryption to sites wanting a shop-wide encryption standard. This functionality is part of Datacom's overall Optimization and Security/Compliance strategies.
Linear VSAM dataset support for Datacom data and index areas has been GA for a number of months. Now we are extending that support to the three Datacom system files.
Previously the system file datasets were constrained to a single naming standard. With this enhancement, customers with different naming standards for VSAM and non-VSAM datasets have more flexibility and can adopt our VSAM support for the system files as they become GA, instead of waiting until support for all three system files is GA.
This enhancement, LU09688, supports the adoption of Linear VSAM Datasets by letting database administrators specify the names of the CXX (Directory), LXX (Log Area) and FXX (Force Area) independently. It provides greater flexibility in naming these system files by allowing independent overrides of the DBSYSID macro parameter DSN_XXX.
- LU04745 and LU06896 provided full Linear VSAM support for Datacom/DB data and index areas and utilities allowing 24x7 migration.
- LU08897 provided Linear VSAM support for the FXX (Force area).
- Support for the CXX (Directory) is currently in customer validation.
- LXX (Log area) support is still forthcoming.
