I'm pleased to announce that we have been approved to develop an install for your Client Server Encyclopedia(CSE) on Linux. Current estimates will deliver this enhancement by June 2023. 

 

FAQ: 

• How can I participate in beta testing?

• Email [e-mail]. You will be added to the Gen project on Validate.Broadcom.com. Pre-release testing may be available as early as March, so sign up now! 

• Will I need to change my Broadcom contract to use my CSE on Linux?

• If you already have a CSE (Gen Encyclopedia Server Option) , you won't need to change your contract. You will automatically have access to CSE on Linux, even if you currently have your CSE on Windows or Unix. 

• What versions of Linux will be supported?

• This new installation will be certified on Red Hat Enterprise Linux v8.x. Here is the list of Gen's supported third-party software, for more details. 

• This will not support z/OS Linux. Submit a Community Idea if CSE on z/OS Linux is something you need.

@Ton The short answer is NO, we have no plans to stop technical support of Gen 8.6. We are on a Continuous Delivery model, which means we are delivering enhancement via PTFs and are not planning for a bulky "release" that would take us to v8.7 or v9.0. 

Broadcom is making significant investments in Gen, like offering the CSE on Linux. These investments may surface a significant technical reason or customer need for a new "release".  In that case we would support the newest version(like Gen 8.7 or Gen 9.0) and end support for Gen 8.6. That would be communicated via this community and email, and common practice is to give at least a year's advance notice.

I am excited to share that we are almost ready to share a Beta installation of CSE on Linux. This includes a complete CSE installation, including CSE Servers, Generators, Message Dispatcher & Update API. This will be supported with Oracle databases and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (not z/OS Linux). 

Estimated Beta Timeline*: May 30 -  June 15, 2023 We'll adjust that timeline depending on what you need.
