Since the recent support portal migration some useful links have temporarily disappeared from he CA Gen product Home page
Here is a list which you may find useful:

CA Gen Product Home Page: https://casupport.broadcom.com/product-information-details.html?pname=CA%20Gen

CA Gen Solutions & Patches Indexes: https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/product-content/recommended-reading/technical-document-index/ca-gen-solutions-patches-indexes.html

    Thanks Lynn.

I thought CA gen is almost dead if not then will be soon. Are there any new customer anywhere in the world in the last few years who chose Gen over other affordable/popular offering from other vendors ? I don't think so.
I think most of the Gen sites are stuck with Gen as they can't replace it that easily (reason could be budget or skills or "if it ain't broke don't fix it" syndrome ???). Having said that I think the trend is to replace Gen code with traditional Java, COBOL etc.etc..
I myself worked in Gen space for almost 20 years and then moved away as there are hardly any job opportunities around.

A new "PRODUCT NEWS" section has now been added to each Product Information page on the new Support portal. This restores the "useful links" that were previously available on the old Support portal. e.g. for CA Gen:
    https://casupport.broadcom.com/product-information-details.html?pname=CA%20Gen#
    #supportportal #support #portal #productnews

    Thanks for the overview Lynn.

    1. Do you have a link to CA Gen training? If I search Learning Portal there is no hit for CA Gen.
    2. And a link to the most recent roadmap for CA Gen would be welcome.

      Best regards,
      Mieke

    Hi @M B,
The CA Gen Learning Paths can be found here from where you can login to the Learning@Broadcom Portal: https://learningpaths.ca.com/gen
If your account has active maintenance then after you login to the Learning Portal you should be able to search for "CA Gen" and find WBT courses which are free for active maintenance customers (https://www.ca.com/us/education-training/free-training.html)

For the CA Gen roadmap there is no published up to date version at this time. I will ask the Gen Product Manager @Su Brude to comment on this.

    Regards,

    Lynn

    Hi @M B,
I see you logged a CA Gen support case because you are still having problems with the Learning Portal and access to Gen Learning Paths while your colleague can access them successfully. I have advised my Gen support colleagues in EMEA of our discussion on this Community thread and they will ask our Customer Care team to investigate further for you.

    Regards,

    Lynn

For the benefit of anyone else with problems accessing the Gen Learning Paths/WBT courses, your login may not have SITE ACCESS setup correctly for your Site ID which has the active maintenance which is preventing the course access.
After login to https://www.broadcom.com under "CA Technologies Software" go to the "Software Support Portal" (https://casupport.broadcom.com).
Under "MY ACCOUNT" there is "MY PROFILE" and "SITE ACCESS REQUEST".
Request specific site access for a Site ID using "SITE ACCESS REQUEST". After that is granted recheck your access to the Gen Learning Paths/WBT courses.

    Hi Mieke,

Any roadmaps that we have posted are going to be dated as they supported the work the team was doing for 8.6 Complete.  I have plans to host a webinar in the near future covering the recent availability of Gen 8.6 Complete as well as a walk through of a fresh roadmap taking us forward.

We will be posting the webinar details in the next week.

If you have any particular questions, feel free to reach out to me.

    Hi Lynn,

Hope all is well. I've just noticed that the latest 'BC' badged version of the DocOps for CA Gen no longer provides the capability to save the documentation: either its entirety or specific [chosen] elements as a PDF - which is a surprise. Can you confirm if this was a deliberate decision, an oversight or planned functionality once full transition is complete please? If the latter reasons could I request its prompt re-introduction as it was a hugely useful piece of functionality to assess, as an example, latest revisions of Release Notes and/or Technical Prerequisites very easily and quickly.

Without it we'll have to resort to copy/paste which seems like a step backward and for larger document extracts a non-starter.

    Kindest Regards

    Hi Gary,
    Good to hear from you.
The PDF export feature should be available for CA Gen in due course and hopefully soon. CA Gen has only just been migrated from CA docops to Broadcom techdocs. Other products that were migrated earlier already have it already e.g. XCOM for z/OS:

Thanks for the prompt reply Lynn! It's good to know the functionality will be returning at some point. Perhaps someone could drop a quick update into the forum once this change has been re-introduced?

    Hi Lynn,

Many thanks for the update. I did try to reply on the forum directly but every time I pressed 'Reply' the system dumped me back out into the 'My Broadcom' page. At present it seems we are unable to post and attempting to go directly to the 'Mainframe' section of communities (via the mainframe icon) drops you back to the 'My Broadcom' page – so there appear to be some issues with the support/communities website at present.

In response I was going to mention that while the return of the PDF option is very welcome the current behaviour is different to what we had previously in that, in the past, you could select a section of the documentation and just download that section (as a PDF). Now, irrespective of the subsection chosen, the entirety of the CA Gen documentation (6000+ pages for 8.6) is always extracted. As an example attempting to download just the release notes: the release note section is selected and opens up, PDF is requested but then the whole of 8.6 techdoc is extracted! Please can I request that we return to the CA support 'techdocs' approach whereby the PDF option/extract was context based. Yes, provide an option to download the whole of the documentation if necessary but, usually, individuals are interested in just a sub-section and only wish to extract that.

Also, when testing this I was frequently dumped out to the 'My Broadcom' page – so this points to some ongoing stability issues with the pages beyond being unable to post.

    Kindest Regards

    Gary

    Hi Gary, Lynn

While I download the entire documentation at the same time, I very much prefer to have a number of documents to search. It is then possible to focus the returned hits by document context, for example installation rather than developing. With only one document that context is lost.

    Thanks.

Hi @GARY DONOGHUE and @Geoff Stratton,
This is obviously the same pdf export behaviour across all the product techdocs right now. However I have made Gen Product Management aware of  your concerns with the new "single pdf export for techdocs" limitation so they can pass it up the line to the relevant party. Hopefully it can be enhanced in the near future.

    Regards,

    Lynn

    Hi Lynn,

Many thanks for the update regarding the PDF export functionality - enhancement to supply selective PDF extract would be excellent. I do also concur with Geoff that, given the size of the CA Gen overall documentation PDF (6000+ pages), the ability to download separate documents that could then be searched as part of an index from the overall documentation 'catalog' would be great.

Please keep the forum appraised of improvements in this area.

    Kindest Regards

    Gary
