    Hello CA Spool community!

CA Spool creates SMF metrics data to record all major events and Spool operations. It is becoming more difficult to work with SMF from a skillset perspective; new administrators don't know how to work with SMF. And an integration perspective; it's hard for non-mainframe apps to consume SMF.

This new utility will enable users to read SMF data (subtype 11, subtype 12, and SMF type 6) and create a comma-separated value (CSV) output file.  This file can then be imported into Microsoft Excel for analysis or to a business process such as a chargeback system.

This new feature requires the following PTFs to be applied: SO12826, and SO12579. To read more about this new enhancement click here.

    Best regards,
    Ed Blazejewski

Hi, the enclosed link is broken.   I am trying to produce a report identifying some of the jobs, with largest JES Spool lines of output.   Would this utility have that capability?   Also I did not see CBQ4JCL(BQ4SMFRP) mentioned within our PDS.   Do the PTFs have to be applied for the member to show up?

    Hi Patrick,

You need to apply the PTFs mentioned in the post to have the sample JCL created. The fact that you don't have those PTFs applied indicates you are very low on maintenance for this Spool instance. Moreover, it indicates that the other required modifications to create the Spool SMF records are not installed either.

The link below contains the reference for the SMF Metrics Report Utility:

You can download the latest PTFs published for Spool from the link below:
