What is coming in the next release of CA CSM?

After releasing CA CSM 6.0 few months ago, our team has been busy with reviewing existing enhancements, planning the next release based on them and some internal refactoring and fixing to get the codebase into a better shape for the new features.

What did we come up with? Among others:

    • We would like to look into an alternative approach to installing maintenance, where you could use the existing maintenance wizards to identify the appropriate set of SYSMODs to be applied. Then, instead of actually APPLYing them, CA CSM would allow you to generate a flat file with all these SYSMODs. You could use this flat file to maintain you existing identical SMP/E Environments on multiple different LPARs, specifically on those where you cannot have, or do not want to have CA CSM installed and connected to CA Support servers for maintenance download.
    • For SMP/E related actions performed within CA CSM, we plan to provide an option for the SMP/E related outputs to be stored in spool as an alternative to the CSM tasks used today. This should be helpful for customers who have implemented set of tools and processes around spool and would like to also use that for the SMP/E outputs from CA CSM.
    • We want to implement additional strategies for situations when running out of space during maintenance installation, further reducing the occurrence of these and the need for the user to manually perform actions outside of CA CSM.

There is much more in our backlog, but this is what we want to start with for now.

Does any of that sound interesting to you? Would you like to influence the way how these are implemented? Would you like to make sure we don't forget that one little detail which would make the big difference for you?

I have the perfect opportunity for you. Working in an agile fashion, our development team needs a good group of customers to discuss our direction with, to show our progress and the features as they are being developed and to gather the feedback to continuously correct our course as we move forward. To you we offer the opportunity to have early look (and touch) at our features, the opportunity to discuss with our development team and to influence the direction of the product in a way that best fits your specific needs.

We will be having these review meetings frequently, every couple of weeks, to make sure we're still on target as we move forward.

Feel free to reach out to me if you are interested or if you have any questions. I can give you a call and clarify anything and everything.

And if you don't feel like participating in any meetings, or your schedule does not allow you to be available, feel free to visit our ideas section here on the communities. You can submit your ideas of what we should do in CA CSM, and you can also browse exiting ideas and let us know what you think about them. Vote on them, comment, ask questions. All the little details you can provide will help us better understand your needs and better prioritise our future work.

There may not be many at this moment, but we will start with populating the ideas based on existing enhancement requests and move forward from there.

The team has started to work and we are eager to get more customers that would like to see the changes early and help us form their final shape. Would you like to participate in direct discussion with the developers and influence the direction we are going?

Come on over to https://validate.ca.com and sign up for the CA Chorus Software Manager (CSM) r6.1 project.

We appreciate anyone that is willing to help.
