  • 1.  Monitoring USS tasks for job availability

Has anyone found a way in SYSVIEW to monitor for job availability USS tasks that can be suffixed with different numbers when started such as FTPD1, FTPD2, etc.?  The Required Jobs monitor for JOBSTAT does not allow generic wildcards as per the doc:

    JOBSTATRequired jobs

    Jobname required to be active.

Generic wild carding is not allowed.

    Thanks.

    Hi John,

What do you want to be alerted on.

The MONITOR JOBSTAT is for jobs required to be active.

These FTPD1, FTPD2, etc jobs, should these be always active.

I think these are more started when an FTP process is required....

So, please let us know what the intention is you want to be alerted on and when...

    Thanks,

We want to monitor that the jobs are active. While the FTPD rarely cause a problem, a better example is the SSHD1,2, etc. task that occasionally (for whatever reason) will not stay up after an IPL and needs to be restarted.

    Hi John,

i checked this and it's currently not possible to get this done via CA Sysview. You could use CA OPS/MVS and specify these tasks as an SSM resource. SSM can then monitor the tasks and restart them if necessary.

If you want to extend CA Sysview with this via the MONITOR JOBSTAT command, you will need to raise an Idea at this communities website and development will look into it...

Thanks. For the time being I'll use OPS/MVS to monitor these types of tasks.
