    Sorry if this results in a double post as when I select SEND I get no reply that it was sent so am trying again.

    About once a year we get the following error and end up recycling both production DB Muf and CICS to free up the table:
    DB13001E - UNEXPECTED RETURN CODE 46 (46) BASE OPEN IN ANOTHER COPY OF DATACOM

    We cannot figure out what other process has it open.
    COMM STATUS shows:

    DBPMUF:DBPMUF:DB01327I - MULTI-USER AVAILABLE, TASKS - ATTACHED-----3, AVAILABLE----97
    DBPMUF:DBPMUF:DB01328I - TIME I/O JOBNAME R-UNIT TASK CMD-DBID-TBL SEQ STATUS ID TSN
    DBPMUF:DBPMUF:DB01330I -                CICSP1      2835       1                                          NOT ACTIVE 3

    The sequence of events are:
    1. Batch job runs and tried to close 410 but is unsuccessful and batch job abends
    CICS CIP1
    MBCB020-CONNECTION COMPLETE TO APPL(CIP1 ) XUSR(CONTROLM)
    DBLC CLOSE=410
    MBCE137-COMMAND DBLC CLOSE=410 WAS UNSUCCESSFUL RC( )
    DBLC CLOSE=410
    MBCB022-CLOSE CONNECTION COMPLETE FOR APPL(CIP1 )
    MBCB002-MACKINNEY BATCH TO CICS 2.0 ENDING MAXCC(255)

    2. Then we restart the job in that step and the close IS SUCCESSFUL but a later step in the job gets the DB13001E error:
    CONTROL CARD(S)
    .........1.........2.........3
    INIT AREA=JWL,DBID=434
    FUNCTION=INIT
    AREA=JWL
    DBID=00434

    DB13001E - UNEXPECTED RETURN CODE 46 (46) BASE OPEN IN ANOTHER COPY OF DATACOM
    DB10045E - ABNORMAL TERMINATION DUE TO ERROR(S)

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    We run this job a lot.  The only time we get the DB13001E in the later step is after a restart of the job that got the CLOSE error initially.

    Thank you, Carl

    Hi Carl, there could be a number of reasons for a 46(046), and especially since it is so sporadic, it might be a challenge to track down here in the community.

    I would recommend that you open a support case, and provide
    * The "before" and "after" recycle MUF outputs
    * The "before" and "after" recycle CICS outputs
    * The output of the batch job that fails
    * The output of the restarted batch job that succeeds.

    This would give us a good start at seeing what is happening.

    Thank you/Cordialement/Saludos/Mit besten Gruessen,

    Don Johnson
