    Datacom users,

Now may be the time for your to request the CA Datacom SQL Monitor.

Many of you are aware that the CA Datacom SQL Monitor is a valuable tool currently distributed as a user-contributed sample program to help you monitor the performance of many SQL queries in your environment and help isolate and resolve certain performance problems.

As a sample program it is not currently an official part of the CA Datacom product.  The code and basic documentation are distributed to licensed users of CA Datacom/DB Plus (which includes the CA Datacom SQL component) who request it only after the site has signed a formal Disclaimer document agreeing that the code is not a part of the CA Datacom product offerings, is not supported and cannot be shared with other sites.

The signing of the Disclaimer form itself has been a barrier to the adoption of the tool by some sites.  We have recently repackaged the Monitor with the Disclaimer information embedded in the source of each of the artifacts.  The Monitor is still only available to licensed CA Datacom/DB customers, is still not part of the official product, is still not supported and still cannot be shared with others outside your site.  But the need for the formal signing of the Disclaimer document has been removed.  By your use of the Monitor in its new form, you are agreeing to the conditions stated here (and now in the artifacts themselves).

With this change we hope that there will be additional sites who will adopt the tool for their use.  Broadcom Support may suggest that you install the Monitor in certain situations where you're working with Support on a performance matter.  Be aware also that we are evaluating the possibility of formally incorporating the Monitor into the CA Datacom product offering at some future point and actively seeking additional feedback from customers.  We would be interested in your view of the usefulness of the tool.

Next Step:  To request the Monitor, please open a case with Broadcom Support.  You may wish to view the recent webcast by Dick Williamson on the Monitor.  Then please let us know how the tool helps you in your day-to-day job.
