  • 1.  Upgrade of CA Datacom from version 14 to 15.1

Hello all. During upgrade of CA Datacom we are quite confused which process is valid to upgrade datacom from version 14 to version 15.1.

Here is the first one, manual downloaded from ftpdocs(Upgrade manual started on page 84) : https://ftpdocs.broadcom.com/cadocs/0/CA%20Datacom%20V15%200%20Public-ENU/Bookshelf_Files/PDF/Datacom15--Install_zOS_ENU.pdf
There is a process to just run BDUPG* jobs to fully upgrade datacom from version 14 to version 15.0. Ok we want to have V15.1, but those BDUPG* members are there as  well in a samplib....

And in CA techdocs we found this process:
    https://techdocs.broadcom.com/content/broadcom/techdocs/us/en/ca-mainframe-software/database-management/ca-datacom-ad/15-1/installing/how-to-perform-a-14-to-151-active-muf-upgrade/taken-from-ad-v15-modify-and-execute-the-caihlqactinstjcl-upgrade-jcl-members.html

Which one of those two is valid and more easily executed? In a second one there are jobs AX* and AD* to be run to upgrade it...

Hi Michal, the ftpdocs you referenced is an old version of the documentation for CA Datacom/DB Version 15.0, and the techdocs webpage is for CA Datacom/AD Version 15.1 - two different products.

So the first question is - which product are you trying to upgrade - CA Datacom/AD or CA Datacom/DB?

The next question is - if CA Datacom/AD, what products at your firm use CA Datacom/AD for their data repository? This information will help us put you on the right track.

The short answer to either product is that you should follow the process for an Active Upgrade, as it uses existing files and configurations, and has proven to be a simpler upgrade. There are other considerations, though, which is why I asked the above two questions.

I hope to hear from you soon!
