  • 1.  Question on Converting IDMS files (excp) to VSAM

    Posted Jan 09, 2019 04:19 PM

Does anyone have experience and/or examples with converting IDMS files to VSAM?

We are going to convert all of the files on our Z14 to Pervasive Encryption this year so I won't be able to keep our IDMS files as regular EXCP files.

Does anyone have any IDCAMS examples for allocating the new VSAM files?    Any guidelines on how to calculate the size and properties of these files?     What is the best method to use when converting the data from non-vsam to vsam?

    Thanks

    Steve

IDMS supports native VSAM files and we have several native VSAM databases not that this is what your looking for but you could take a IDMS schema record definitions and define them as VSAM records, loading the data would probably take a user written program to read an IDMS database and populate a VSAM defined file.
