MFX72E: Pre-Con Ed: CA IDMS Database Navigation
This session will focus on the characteristics of the database and the effects of programming in this environment. Students will learn how to use navigational DML statements and navigate through a non-SQL database environment using data structures and currency.
MFX73E: Pre-Con Ed: Using SQL to Access Your CA IDMS Databases
This session will describe how to represent your existing networked, defined CA IDMS™ databases for relational model access. We’ll discuss available SQL access strategies in detail, such as the use of procedures, table procedures and foreign keys.
MFX74E: Pre-Con Ed: Using Java to Access Your CA IDMS Databases and Applications
Many users are focused on developing new applications in Java™, but still have a large investment in CA IDMS™ databases and applications. This session will show how you can use JDBC and SQL to leverage your CA IDMS databases and business logic from your Java applications. We’ll provide an overview of Java programming concepts and JDBC for those new to Java, as well as more advanced topics for more experienced users.

MFX100S: Strategy and Vision for CA IDMS™
Come to this session to learn the strategy, vision and roadmaps for CA IDMS™. Learn how today's business and technology trends are influencing innovation. You will also develop an understanding of how customer-driven agile development enhancements are being prioritized for future releases and get a closer look at the new functionality, content and integrations under consideration. This session covers CA IDMS release status and a review of features that address customer-centric needs around service enablement, business continuity, and total cost of ownership.
MFX101S: Legacy is Not a Dirty Word
In this session, we will explore the "legacy" decision and technology choices. We will explore options and the pros and cons of several ways to move forward. For this discussion, we will define a hypothetical company that has made major investments in IDMS but has an urgent need to "modernize." While we cannot draw conclusions in a hypothetical situation, we can and will explore a rational process that can be followed in pursuit of a plan of action. That plan of action will begin with two understandings: first, the definition of where our company is today, and second, where we want it to be - not only from a technology platform perspective, but also from the perspective of achieving the company's tactical and strategic business plans. It is important to note that this discussion is not entirely hypothetical. It is composed with real world observations made by the speaker at many companies over many years. Some organizations are able to move forward very successfully, yet many struggle. This session presents an opportunity to explore their differences.
MFX102S: CA IDMS™ 19.0 Web Services for Modernization
The vision of CA IDMS™ 19.0 is to improve CA IDMS modernization capabilities through features that enable customers to expand investments in core CA IDMS applications and improve developer productivity using modern skills and industry-standard technology. This session discusses a CA IDMS 19.0 project to simplify integration of CA IDMS applications and Web services.
MFX103S: CA IDMS™ 19.0 SQL Enhancements for Modernization
Customers need to leverage their investment in CA IDMS™ to create new applications based on services in the application economy, and they need to do this with current technologies and developer skill sets. This session shows how SQL enhancements in CA IDMS 19.0 improve standards compliance, developer productivity, and compatibility with third party tools and applications. The SQL virtual foreign key feature enables developers to use standard SQL to access and update network databases without the need to use network DML or table procedures. Enhancements to SQL DDL enable users to define databases using standard DDL compatible with other databases.
MFX105S: Implementation and Use of Generic VTAM Resources with Parallel Sysplex Features
This session will cover the generic VTAM Resource enhancement and Parallel Sysplex features and how the two options combined can be leveraged to improve 24X7 availability, balance workloads, and eliminate single point of failure for your CA IDMS™ systems.
MFX104S: Java Access to CA IDMS™ Data at British Telecom
"British Telecom (BT), one of the world's leading providers of communications solutions and services, has recently introduced direct access to its major CA IDMS CSS (Customer Service System) databases using the CA IDMS Server JDBC interface. Join Steve Terry, BT Systems Programmer, DBA and Manager, as he explains the why, how of this project and a few of the lessons learnt so far.
10/19 - Brand. This file is still in Brand Review - just adding this note. I downloaded both files (presenter sent updated slides) - however, the two files have identical content. I'm considering the 1st file the official file since it's been formatted to the template and includes the necessary CAW content. Let me know if there is a concern. Janice
MFX106S: CA IDMS™ Buffer Tuning
This session gives you an overview of database and journal buffers, and how they work. You will learn how to size your database and journal buffer pools for performance and how to tune buffers to improve zIIP usage.
MFT149T: Tech Talk: "12 Monkeys” and the Mainframe
In the SyFy adventure "12 Monkeys", the Monkeys are time travelers, bent on destroying the universe by creating paradoxes at 12 points in time. One character sees the coming disruption and sounds the following warning: "Everything's changing. Green to red. Everything's changing.” It’s obvious that "green to red" is not good. Attend this Tech Talk and learn, while not quite as dire, the speaker is also sounding a warning: cloud computing is happening. It’s a disruptive technology and we don’t have a time machine we can use to fight it. What does this mean for the mainframe? Is this disruptive change from “green to red” or from “red to green”? The outcome will depend on what you do. We are going to explore 12 things that cloud computing is changing and how they might affect your future.
DevOps: Agile Operations; Mainframe and Workload Automation
MFX107S: M3A Services Monitor, Measure, Manage and Alert
Organizations are facing a growing skill concern as retirement is reducing their available technical workforce. This reduction of skilled employees represents a loss in the library of knowledge used to keep their mission-critical CA IDMS™ systems up and running. Attend this session and learn how the CA IDMS M3A service provides organizations with a simple way to augment and enhance their resources to support their CA IDMS environments.

MFX108S: Birds of a Feather/Stump the Techie for CA IDMS™
This is the one session you'll want to attend. Bring us your toughest questions! There are certain problems we all deal with every day and whether you’re the tech-guru that’s always answering these questions or someone that does all the asking - this session is where everyone can share ideas about their most common conundrums. You never know what you'll learn: perhaps money saving tips, or optimization techniques. Attend this session and collaborate with peers and colleagues, and communicate directly with CA IDMS™ subject experts. You can contribute your ideas and techniques too – we’re always looking for more content from subject experts like you!
Pat Roehl and I will be there representing ObjEx.
We’ll be looking for the group!
Has CA made a permanent decision to return IDMS content to CA-WORLD?? In 2013 or 14 there was virtually NO IDMS content which led to the creation of the (high;y successful and enjoyable) mini-conferences in framingham
I would have considered CA-WORLD – but I had no idea that idms was back on the table,
Is ca-world including user presentations? Or only vendor-based presentations?
If CA-WORLD is including both, does this spell the end of the mini-camps?

Yes, we have brought back technical content to CA World 2016 based on customer feedback.
CA IDMS and CA Datacom will feature four full days of education and sessions discussing new capabilities and plans for these products.
From the mini-camp perspective, our plan is to discuss what makes sense with the User Group committees, after CA World.
We recognize the value that customers receive from ongoing collaboration and training and are committed to jointly find the best approach to technical education.
Ian Cameron and Al Dicken will be attending from Michigan State University
