Hi, I'm new to CA7 and sorry if this question has been asked before.  We are running CA-7 running on a z/OS 2.3 and I'm trying to understand how SSCAN works.  It is very confusing.

Every Saturday evening at 20:30 our automation took issues the command SSCAN,SPAN=16 and as a result at 21:00 the schedule scan starts and completes.   We then at around 21:15 begin the shutdown of the system follow by a re-ipl.   Works beautifully.

This past weekend was a bit different, automation issued the SSCAN,SPAN=16 command at 20:30 as it normally does.  The wake up scan time shows 0900.   All good up to this point.

At 20:49 the shutdown of CA7 was started and the system brought down/  All of this occurred before the schedule scan start time of  21:00.

    04APR 20:30:00   CURRENT SCHEDULE SCAN VALUES :
    04APR 20:30:00
    04APR 20:30:00      SPAN = 0960
    04APR 20:30:00      INCR = 0120
    04APR 20:30:00      QUEUE DWELL = 30
    04APR 20:30:00      REPROMPT = 00
    04APR 20:30:00      LEAD TIME = 0000
    04APR 20:30:00      SKELETON RETRY = 00
    04APR 20:30:00      XPJOB RETRY = 00

    04APR 20:30:00      HOLD JOBS = NO
    04APR 20:30:00      NEXT SCAN WAKE-UP = 20095 AT 2100

After the IPL was completed no jobs were being run, I'm assuming because the schedule scan at 2100 did not occur.

We manually entered the command SSCAN,SPAN=16 and it was not until 0219 that jobs start coming in.  What made the schedule start time 0219 ?   Can you not force the jobs to start coming in immediately ?

We don't do it the way you do to start up jobs.  We do
    SSCAN,SCAN=SCH
SSCAN,TIME=  (Next hour at the full hour time i.e. at 4:30 we would put in 0500)

    Thank you,

some clarification please, what does SSCAN,SCAN=SCH do, does that scan in jobs immediately ?

secondly SSCAN,TIME= can that be in 5 mins, 10 mins or does it need to be at the full hour ?

The first command forces sscan to wakeup and brings jobs in the queue..  If you change the span, you can force ca7 to wake up. Also, after your outage, ca7 automatically does a scan when he starts up  and looks back to his last scan period to see if it has missed anything. If jobs schedules should have come in why it was down, it will bring those jobs into the queue, along with any other  jobs for his forward scan.  Be careful when using the sscan, time=.  This command  specifies the next wake up time for sscan.  Once sscan parameters are set, you should not have to bother it again.  If you look at the help facility screen in ca7(PF1) and put in "SSCAN" if will explain the parameters to you.  You can also open a case with SEV 4 as a question and they will call you. They are very helpful and knowledgeable.
