  • 1.  ESP- Special Day Limitation?

    Posted Jan 10, 2020 10:29 AM

    Greetings!

We have a special calendar that a developer has asked us to add more days too.  In this request for special days, this developer has requested days all the way through 2071.  However,  I have noticed that ESP only displays the calendar up to 2041.

Is there an undocumented limitation here (I have looked at the online documentation) or some setting or parm that we need to update?

    Thanks!

    Hi Jonathan,
I don't know the current status on this in z/OS.  z/OS has always had a drop dead date in 2042.  The internal clock can't go past 2042.  It think it is known as the TOD 2042 issue.

IBM has been working to fix this for quite a few years.  I don't know where it stands.  I think when the z/OS issue is fixed it may take some time to fix ESP.

    Hi Jonathan,

Generally ESP should support end calendar date at SEPT 17th, 2042, which may be related to the z/os limitation as Don mentioned.

But GENTIME has lower limitation on 31 DEC 2040.

    Hope this helps,

    Lucy

    Hi Jonathan,
    Just an update.
IBM has produced a solution.  I believe it came out is z/OS 2.3. Every program that uses a date will need to be rewritten to use the new method. It will take some time to implement. Especially in a scheduler that uses date and time so frequently.  On the good side there are a few years before it becomes super critical.
