I currently have a proclib that I use for event definitions that is full. Would converting it to a PDSE be a problem?

    Hi Frank,
The EVENTs in ESP are stored in a VSAM file   They can be dumped/backed up to a flat file.  I am not aware of a PDS that stores event definitions.
Maybe you can elaborate. It seems like this is something that may be something special created in your environment.

    PDS vs PDSE
I am sure several people will disagree.....I am waiting for the flood....

I long time ago I got burned multiple times by PDSEs getting corrupted.
Since then, they have come a long ways and are much improved.

Occasionally, I still get a ticket on a corrupt PDSE.  I haven't gotten one in the last year or so...

    The answer:
I would feel fairly comfortable at this point but I would make sure that backups are taken regularly.

When I grab the information for the dataset that houses event proclib:

    When I browse dataset:

    Inside one of the members:

I suppose I am using the wrong term when I say event definition.

We have been successfully running most of our Proclibs and other ESP libraries as PDS/e for a couple of years.  They are especially beneficial if there are a lot of member updates to the dataset.

    Ah,
Now we are on the same page.
Some people call this a PROC library. I call it an APPL library. Mostly APPLs are stored in there. There may be some procs.

It can be converted to a PDSE. I would recommend a backup daily.
