  • 1.  What is the best approach to clean up old database entries?

    Posted Aug 19, 2015 02:25 PM

    Is there a utility that shows if there are any defined reports that have been inactive or unused for specific periods of time? Would the SMF data provide the ability to correlate activity against the database entries?

    Have you considered using the CA VIEW Metrics Reports ?

    Standard reports that we supply are Access Activity Report and Load Activity Report and we document these in the CA VIEW Reference Guide.

    Thanks Mike

    Thanks for the response. Yes, we are aware of the reports cited. However, some database report entries may be defined as daily, monthly or annually. From what I would understand is that to ensure an entry is valid, one would have to scan through a minimum of 12 to 18 months worth of SMF data and then analyze the reports line-by-line comparing the entry against the database. An challenging and time consuming adventure. Or perhaps I misunderstand the metric reports and how they can be utilized?

    Thanks!

    Hello,

    Another possibility is to run the SARSAM8 ADLIST program.  The last field in the report is the BRS Date which stands for "Browse Date" or "Last Access"

    Unlike SARBCH that performs most reporting functions based on report id and/or generation numbers; ADLIST performs all reporting functions based on an archival date or archival date range.

    The sample report was created for all dates using the list control  statement:  /LIST ARCHDATE=*

    Example of the report:

    CA-VIEW - VERSION 12.1 - DATABASE: VIEW.SYSTEM1

    SYSOUT ID                          GEN      SEQ    ARC DATE/TIME  PRT DATE/TIME

    ============================================================

    #DESJO01                           665  65534    11/02/14 13:20  11/02/14 15:57

    ACCF9CPB                           932         56    10/30/14 11:46  10/30/14 12:00

    ACCF9CPB                           932         55    10/30/14 11:46

    ACCF9CPB                           932         37    10/23/14 11:02  10/23/14 12:09

    Rest of the line.......

    LOC     ORG  IDX            PAGES               LINES   XCODE  BRS DATE

    ====    ===   ===   =========== =========== ======   =========

    DISK   SAR                                 8                    159                   11/02/14

    DISK   EXP                                27                    126                   10/30/14

    TAPE   EXP                                27                   126

    TAPE   EXP                                27                   126                    10/23/14

    You can also alter the online panels to show last access date instead of PRT Date.  Then you can use the SORT ACCDATE command to sort the Last Access field.  ACCDATE, as referenced in the Users Guide, refers to a SORT operand to list in Last Accessed   Date order (descending).

    Since SORT ACCDATE is a command to sort the Sysout Selection List by last accessed date, how can the “last access” date be displayed on the Sysout Selection List menu?

    1. Go to the Sysout Selection List panel and type HELP PANEL on the command line.   In the upper right corner you will see the panel id/program    See ^^^^^^^ in the example below.  This is the panel name to look for in the CVDEPENU library.
