Lenn,
What we are saying that packages like CCS or IPC provides many different
components as building blocks that we are to install our primary purchased
program product on top of. Those primary purchased program products
usually provide us with one or few IVPs that we as clients can run to see
if the primary program product was installed correctly and is working.
Smart clients will also leverage these IVPs again whenever there is a
major change or upgrade in their OS platform or subsys like CICS.
What we are saying is that we expect CA to provide similar IVPs for each
of the components of these foundational packages like CCS and IPC in order
to make sure they are able to run and recognize which components are there
and which are not since all are not needed by every purchased program
product. However, like building a house, it is very important to ensure
that the foundation of the house is "rock solid" and settled before you
start building the home or building on top of it. We don't like
installing CCS and IPC blindly and not finding out until you attempt to
run the primary program product that there is something missing or not
connected.
It would be very nice in the IVP for a component if it actually invoked
and utilized that component for some functional purpose. However, if all
else, it could do something that could be useful to the client as a tool
of some sort like:
display LMP keys and products installed, show CCI connections,
indicate the CICS releases supported by VPE,
reflect the IPC or CCS components installed and what is the
highest PTF level that is applied to each,
display the CICS OPID, CICS name and Applid the transaction was
run on,
provide a disassembler for any main options blocks that would have
been created by the previous release,
generate a report with module prefix and message prefix associated
with each component,
etc. etc. etc.
