We are pleased to announce that CA Gen 8.6 now offers the following APIs for convenient access to workstation generator functionality*.

    • Windows Manager (GUI)
    • Server Manager
    • Proxies
    • Batch Manager
    • Dialog Manager
    • Map/Screen

*Note: Access will be limited to the generators for which you have licenses.

This enhancement was delivered in partnership with IET, enabling generation capabilities in Studio Developer through their modernized user interface. A special thank you to @DARIUS PANAHY, the IET team, and all the beta testers.

It is our intent to expand API access to Gen functionality, and enhance the API implementation to optimize the user experience. This is just one more step towards that goal. We are eager for your feedback. The more we hear from you the more we will invest to ensure we deliver value you really need.

    Sincerely,

    Kim Peelman

    CA Gen Product Owner

P.S. CA Gen has moved to a continuous delivery model. To learn more about Broadcom's approach to continuous delivery and maintenance best practices, read HERE.

    -------------------------------
    -------------------------------

    What is an API?

An API (Application Programming Interface) is a software intermediary that enables two applications to communicate with each other. They provide a set of definitions, creating a standardized way of communicating between, without developers having to know how the other system exactly works. Through APIs, developers gain access to functionality, which then can easily be used in their own applications.

Benefits of CA Gen Toolset Generation APIs

    • Automation Enablement: Through APIs you can connect automated engines to the generators, like those for testing, deployment, external services, or CI/CD pipelines.
    • Information Access: An application layer can be created to distribute information to other sources of your choice, easily and efficiently.
    • Customization: You can create your own custom interface that taps into the power of CA Gen generators.
    • Consistent Delivery: Scriptable generation of Gen applications without using the Toolset.

Note: These are JavaAPIs that generate from the Toolset, not from the CSE.

I would also like to add a big thank you to Broadcom for delivering this enhancement. The feedback from the beta trial of using the Generator APIs with Studio Developer was very positive. Our customers are now able to generate code locally on the workstation when using Studio Developer and this has been a much anticipated and welcome feature, especially for sites using a host encyclopaedia where generation of non-MVS code relies on local workstation generation.
