You can upgrade to MIM release 12.1 one system at a time from the previous versions:

Prior to upgrading to R12.1, ensure the MIMINIT COMPATLEVEL statement is set to one of the supported values. These are:

Customers can issue the MIM ACTIVATE command from one system to raise the compatlevel. The command syntax is:
F MIM,ACTIVATE(COMPATLEVEL=12.0)
Once this is done, you can not downgrade the compatlevel value *without* performing a global shutdown and restart of the product, specifying a control file format.
If the COMPATLEVEL value is left with the previous value, only a shutdown of version 12.0 is required. This assumes all MIMplex systems are also at that compatlevel value.
